Netcode issues with fast connection?

I have a first class 1Gbs glass fiber internet connection in my home. Pings can be as low as 7ms while playing.

Since BF4 I have the idea this is causing issues from time to time. I can have rounds where I have golden bullets and my hitreg is spot on, but also the other way around. Sometimes I have rubber bullets. Hits do no register and when that does happen I also experience one-frame deaths. Enemy bullets seem to be received in one tick / package. Even when I shoot first with a faster weapon, I loose in such rounds.

And don't be funny about 'get some skill' and 'you are just not good enough' and so on. I know I'm just an average player, I'm not a frag king. But I do know when something is not right in a round. When it goes wrong, always the two things combine: 1) I looks like shooting with blanks and 2) enemies are all instant killing me.

While the next day I can play 10 rounds and all is suddenly normal again: when getting killed the bullets of the enemy don't come all in one frame and I'm able to aim and actually hit and kill someone.

While this issue was worse for me in BF4 and BF1, It also occurs in BF5 for me, but lately it seems to be more severe in BF2042 all of a sudden.

After having issues all night  in  BF2042, I tested BF5 to play a round. And in BF5 there were no issues at all (apart from the shameless cheaters in BF5, but that is another discussion...)

In BF2042 I can't choose servers with a higher ping. What can I do to avoid such issues, because it is utterly annoying.

    Hey @GuiltyNL,

Welcome & thanks for your post.

This indeed sounds like an odd situation.

To answer your main question; no, having a 1Gbs fiber connection should not cause you any issues and result in a negative playing experience. These kinds of things are 9/10 times not dependent on the speed of your connection, but more on the quality of the connection.
The connection can be fast and the ping can be low, but this doesn't have to mean that the quality of the connection itself is also in order.

A lot is dependent on your ISP as well. If there's something going on there with their connection to the servers, this is not something you yourself can troubleshoot, for example.

*On a side note; what I would also like to mention is that we have a Dutch AHQ forum as well if that's something you're looking for. 🙂

  • Well it is not that odd. I'm surprised that you don't know about it, because it is a commonly heard thing. I guess, because in the last years I've heard a lot similar issues. My guess is that is has something to do with a compensation mechanism in the game to bring low ping and high ping players more together.

I really don't doubt the quality of the connection. I have never issues with the connection (KPN, as you are Dutch, you'll know them). Before this I had Ziggo and I was having the same issues. With a different PC, different router and different cables but same behaviour since BF4.

If it was the connection, it should fluctuate during the game. Like lagging or something else. My guess is depends on the connection of other players. The BF mechanism tries to compensate it and causing issues for some players with high end material.

The fact the logging out of BF2042 and logging into BF5 directly afterwards and all being ok out of a sudden tells me also I can rule out quality issues of my connection or PC.

Here is an example of the same issues I'm having, also see the reply of KidElder, same stuff:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield2042/comments/ohs75z/do_you_think_they_finally_fixed_netcode_issues/

It looks like this for example:

Here you see the same, shooter is misaiming clearly, the enemy is around the corner but the guy gets a kill:

And this nails it, this is what I have:

The only question I have, do other players have a suggestion to optimize this?

  • @GuiltyNL It’s not your connection but players that are playing out of their region.
Many players are either using a vpn or the matchmaking is now putting them in the next closest region and it’s killing the hit registration!
Uninstall it dude and move on!

@GuiltyNL, if you would like to see if you can improve your overall connection quality, I recommend taking a look at the following links on our EA Help page:

    Basic: http://x.ea.com/ea/basic-connection-ts

Follow the link(s) below to perform platform-specific troubleshooting:

For more troubleshooting or other things to try, please reach out to your internet service provider (ISP).

    Thanks.

  • @EA_LeeuwThanks for the links, I will look into it, but again, I don't think it has something to do with the connection quality, but it is in-game. Battlefield is the only game for me with these issues. 😉

  • @GuiltyNL Yep all your other games won’t probably be putting people from other continents onto your local server that’s why they work ok.
Don’t bother messing with your connection it’s fine, the problem is 2042!
  • At this point I don't believe it's anything to do with bad netcode, in fact bad netcode isn't a real thing, just a term that was coined up to explain the absolutely atrocious experience we are all having, unfortunately it's smoke and mirrors, follow the money follow the marketplace, the bigger portion of the community are not good players at all they're casual players, and EA and Dice don't want these players to play the game once and never play again, because that's not good for business nor does it generate extra revenue for grEAdy share holders.

Ten years of this so called bad netcode, and they've made zero effort to fix it, in fact if anything it only gets worse with each title that is released.

Brings me to the conclusion that the game isn't broken at all, in fact it is working perfectly, ten whole years spanning across six titles, now I'm not the best player in the world but I have played everyday for 18+ years regardless of the BS, (I refuse to beaten I suppose), so you can imagine I'm above average and have the ability to call BS when I see it, unfortunately that's 95% of the time these days.

Recently there has been a revelation regarding Activision owning patents for game manipulating mechanics, which give poor players a better experience at the detriment to the better players, poor players not needing to be as accurate, and dealing more damage as such, and the better players needing to be not only accurate but work 2-3 times harder to get a mediocre kill on a player who is for lack of better words trash.

I say this with confidence due to the fact, that every single day, every single game, near enough every altercation I've been involved in, has resulted in me shooting the enemy player enough to kill them three or four times over, and regardless how much I have shot the other player, if I am hit once or twice I am dead, also to note the enemy players who always seem to be untouchable, are always of low rank, and now console players, most of which are using MnK adapters taking advantage of the aim assist and low recoil makes for an extremely frustrating and practically unplayable experience.
