ps4 controller on pc battlefield 2042

anyone know how to make the game work with the controller? steam doesnt want to override the game. as i do have that enabled. if anyone recommends using a xbox controller to me. those are junk and uncomfortable and the layout is just so wild from where pc controllers started out before the invention of junkbox.
