Re: BF2042 crashes randomly with no error

Also just had the crash happen again after using DDU to reinstall drivers (also reinstalled game). But I actually got an error message this time instead of the game just closing. DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

yel i got bsod which said “watchdog.sys”and“dxdgimm.sys”after alt＋tab back to game that related to video card,but my card is definitive ok for working i can sure about it,eventially i solve this ctd problem by stop using wechat(an chinese chatting software that running on the mobilephone but also offers the pc's editon) while playing 2042.if you got some kinds of chatting software like it(take discord for example)u can try my method to see if it works for u

Tried downgrading drivers, no luck. Same crash (game just freezes and kicks me out after 30ish mins, breakthrough on stranded playing as sundance with a SFAR), new error, see attached.

I do not seem to get an error after the crash

In terms of troubleshooting i've tried

- Updating my drivers
- Reinstalling windows
- Verifying the files
- Reinstalling EAC
- Repairing EAC
- Rolling back my graphics drivers

- Launching the game through origin although it just launches it through steam
- Scanning the disk for errors (it found some but it didn't fix the game)
- Reinstalling the game, twice

- Enabling DX12 (although im pretty sure this is redundant)
- Turning off CPU performance boost
- Setting maximum CPU to 89%

- Clean booting
- Clearing Cache
- Deleting all my documents of this game in general

The game seems to last for longer in portal but it all ends the same way, either a black screen forever which i have to quit out or a random CTD, and with the amount of reports I'm seeing on this website, reddit and other places, it looks like something may have gone wrong in the update which has made it unplayable for a certain amount of people, I really hope theres a way to somehow fix this or well anything.

I also have been having a graphical glitch aswell which seems to be very rare but still happens, a screenshot of it is attached, aswell as an invisible weapon glitch which seems to have been an issue with this game for a while, whenever it happens quitting the match gives me a black screen

I have tried the following things:

- Updating my drivers
- Verifying the files
- Rolling back my graphics drivers (both game ready and studio drivers) with DDU

- Reinstalling the game

- Clean booting
- Clearing Cache
- Disabling all programs I run 1 by 1, nothing seems to change, although turning off iCUE made me stay ingame for a full hour (normally crashes happen within 30mins without fail).

I do not always get an error, I'd say 75% of the time I get no error and just crash to desktop, 25% of the time I get an error (GPU_HANG one each time, except for one, as I documented earlier in this thread).

Edit: Just tried again and crashed after 10 mins, even with iCUE off, seems it was a coincidence earlier.

After the most recent update my game will geuinely not make it past the splash screen for the game, it seems the game is getting more and more unplayable each update and im so confused on how this could happen.

I am running into the same problem, just bought a New mobo processor ram and a 3070 ti, constantly crash to desktop and no message, the device Hung i fixed by reinstalling direct x you could try that? If you have seen an fix anywhere here please let me know

Latest patch did not solve the issue for me. (Crashed even faster actually within 5mins).

Any confirmation that the developers are looking into this @EA_Atic ? It seems to be a fairly widespread issue and we literally can't play the game (at all, or more than X minutes <30)

I tried every approach possible. Even formatted and reinstalled the entire PC.

Stumbled over a post at AMD´s forums which said that the only thing which

would fix it was to replace the GPU.

So I ditched my 6900XT for a 3090. Was able to play for a week. Now the

game crashes with a different Direct X error which also has been around

since the game was launched.

Are you guys intentionally killing BF?

I am actually getting the exact same issues in FIFA 23 right now (https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Game-crashing-after-a-few-min-dxgi-error-device-hung/m-p/11846872#M1380)

Both the ''crashing with no error'' and the ''gpu device hung'' error happen, exactly like in BF2042. They happen a lot faster though (about 2 to 5min into a match). Definitely seems to be a Frostbite Engine error... incredibly painful and it really makes me stop playing EA/frostbite games lately. Oddly enough I havent seen the error in BFV lately and I played that for a solid 1,5h last week, no crashes.
