Re: BF2042 doesn't launch...

Hey @DiscoStu420,

According to the system requirement of Battlefield 2042 (Origin, Steam), it's a Windows 10-only game. It's not mentioned that it's officially supported on Windows 10 and above, so Windows 11 (and higher) in this case. Therefore it's possible that you're experiencing more issues while playing on Windows 11, than if you would play on Windows 10.

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, it looks to be the case that Microsoft has released a Windows 11 update around the same time as the Season 1 update launched, that now has bricked the game for some players. Unfortunately, this is not something that can be solved with the snap of a finger, but this requires further investigation and troubleshooting.

For example, for some players, it was Trend Micro antivirus that didn't work well with a particular Windows 11 update, which resulted in Battlefield 2042 being blocked and unable to launch. Trend Micro has since released a patch from their side which should solve this issue, another workaround was to make an exclusion in the AV-suite for Battlefield 2042.

Thanks again. I'm just running out of options to play this expensive, (and broken to me) game. Rolling back to W10 is not an option (it likely isn't for most people). I don't think Defender (the only AV on my system) has the ability to exclude anything.... but I'll look into it....

    le sigh....... ☹️

@DiscoStu420, Windows Defender should indeed have an option to make an exclusion for files, folder and specific programs.

Found it... added the launcher and .exe to the exclusion list. I also confirmed the firewall approved the game as well. No change. I decided to add the entire BF path, no change.

EDIT: I also added the Origin path... no change.

@DiscoStu420, that's unfortunate to hear. In that case it's very likely that a different program is blocking these launchers.

Well, I bit the bullet and put a fresh install of W11 (using media creation tool) on an old HDD...the game now works. I'm afraid to update Windows to newer versions...

@DiscoStu420, hmm, alright. That is indeed a pretty drastic step. We would normally not really recommend doing this though, since it really is the most drastic troubleshooting steps someone can perform. Only when all help fails. But yeah, I am glad to hear that it's working again. I hope it will keep working for you!
  • I installed another Windows 11 update today and the game works again.... so happy. Seems like Microsoft fixed the issue.

    Hey @MikoBLN21,

I am very happy to hear that!

Do you happen to know which Windows 11 update this was? You can see that in the Windows Update History.
  • @EA_Leeuw ALL - I turned off Trend Micro and then shut it down and BF2042 is now working. I am running Windows 10.
