So What worked for me and my friend was to block confirm that they show up as a blocked user, and if they do then add as friend from the blocked user list, then join party. let us know if it works for you.

That worked. Block and then unblock, and then add as friend. EA please fix.
How do you block if they dont pop up at all for cross platform friends
I think what is confusing is - my friend is on Steam and I had them as a friend and so it would show up as online with the blue lightning in the Avatar bottom right corner, and I could see they were playing Battlefield. This process worked, thanks!
Make sure you are on the same version...I had the same issue. My kid had the PS5 version, I had the 4. She had to download the PS4 version or vice versa.
Yes, blocking and unblocking worked. Once this had been achieved, both of us had to send the other a friend request. In order to be able to do this you must both join a mutual friend or find a custom server to both join. Good luck!
