Why are they taking so long to resolve this issue
- superbutterpt3 years agoRising Rookie
I'm not sure how it works here but I presume the moderators bring these issue to developers attention after they exhausted all troubleshooting options. This post was marked as solved and is disappearing in the forum so I wouldn't expect them to read it anymore.
As of now I don't foresee this issued being resolved anytime soon and it's sad because of the new content many of us won't get a chance to enjoy it until this issue is brought to awareness or a new patch comes out that fixes it.

@superbutterpt, that is not how the forums work. I just loaded the main page and voilà, the thread is on the 2nd position on the board. The only reason the other thread is on the 1st spot is because it received a new reply a few minutes after you posted a reply in this thread. Posts that are Pinned don't count, as they will always appear at the top of the board, no matter what.
The reason this thread is marked as Solved is explained in the post that is marked as Solution.
The post is updated on a frequent basis with more information to keep visitors of this thread informed. - TheHunterGT3 years agoSeasoned Novice
But it is not solved - is it? Why was it removed as sticky in the first place?
CPU is still going to 85C for many people on Reddit and here...only game that does it...and only after patch.
This whole season has been a waste for hundreds of people.
Fixed...lol.
Still getting 100% CPU usage , althugh i set all visual quality to max and updated to 3.1.0 update.
nothing is solved!
I've tried the cfg solution and it works for input latency but the game performance was still a bit choppy.I posted a solution that worked for me in another thread. I have a RTX 3070 Ti and clearing out the %localappdata%\Local\NVIDIA\DXCache folder fixed all input latency and performance issues. I'm guessing it might be that the shader cache was bugging out the CPU. Game is playing smoothly pre-3.0 patch now. I wonder if it might work for others.Edit:
I rebooted my PC and it started stuttering again. What may be causing problems is other programs using the cache since when I cleared it I had to close some programs such as Epic Game Store, Google Drive, Firefox, and a few more. After clearing DXCache again, the game ran smoothly as expected again.Input latency is back and nothing is helping. Guess I'll take a break from the game.- EA_Leeuw3 years ago

Hey @TheHunterGT,
It's pretty normal that a CPU reaches 85c under the workload, especially if you are playing on a laptop for example. This all depends on the cooling solution of your machine.
This thread is about a constant 100% CPU usage since the Season 3 update, not a specific temperature of the CPU. - ATCleeghoofd3 years agoRising Veteran
@asaf_ISR_armyWhat is the issue with 100% load ? It means the game uses any available core the user give it. Is the game engine therefore optimized, nope as too many users have issues.
However there are some workarounds you can try:
- use one of the user configs to limit the CPU core usage by the game. Remember to attribute less cores/threads to BF than the CPU has out of the box. Rokebo73 has helped tons of users with this solution.
More advanced solutions:
- Manually set CPU core speed and CPU voltage ( latter has a huge impact on temps ) either in Bios or via motherboard software in Windows
- Disable the Hyperthreading cores in the motherboard's Bios
- Do a combination of bothI disabled HT in the motherboards bios so my 11900K only has 8 real cores/threads available in windows. I also set a manual overclock for my CPU at 4800MHz at 1.2Vcore. Without this my Asus motherboard pushes standard over 1.35Vcore making the CPU boost higher ( not necesarrily on all cores) but the temps also go way over 85°; on a strong Noctua air cooler.
At 4800Mhz 1.2 Vcore the 11900K CPU never gets over 65°C during gaming.
I also locked the CPU clocks on a friends 5600X build a few weeks back. Instead of allowing the CPU to boost over 4.6Ghz on the AUTO settings, giving at certain moments more than 1.4Vcore, resulting in measured temps over 90°C. I limited it at 4500MHz 1.25Vcore, and it plays Battlefield Season 3 buttersmooth with temps less than 60°C.

Well - I am not on a laptop - so your "if" statement is not "pretty normal" and does not apply here. It is a full tower case with 5X Noctua fans and a Noctua NH-D15S. My cooling solution is more than adequate for every other program on my PC that stays under 75C.
In what world is a 15C+ jump from 70 to 85C under load - normal?
In what world is a 35+ page forum thread on the issue - normal?
We should change BIOS settings and voltage curves for this one game...when no other games do this? This is - normal?
Dear community - please go change ALL the BIOS settings that work for ALL your other games and programs for our new CPU patch! Yeah - that's normal.
Obviously, I am at 100% CPU usage as well.
This morning it is reaching 3C higher to 88C (two degrees below thermal limit) - and nothing else is able to run in the background. I could easily stream 2042 in OBS at 1440P no problem - now it is a slide show at 10 FPS with multiple OBS CPU warnings popping up. I'm streaming with the GPU (NVENC) as well...not the CPU (H.264).
Prime95 and OCCT do not send my CPU above 75C at 100% AVX loads. In fact - nothing other than BF20242 does it. None of my other 22 games (or programs) installed go above 75C. Not a single one.
The 70-75C it was at before the patch is "normal". 85C is only 5C under the thermal limit - and 88C is now even worse at 2C under thermal limit.
Your dismissive attitude as a "community manager" is not helpful to anybody. You are either ignorant of the real issue, uncaring, or a dev puppet on strings. Perhaps all 3.
If people like you labeled "community managers" don't care and are forced to reply with canned "it's normal" responses - it is clear it is a lost cause and nobody on the dev team cares either.
Save your breath, Mr Manager. This rant is more for my peace of mind than anything. I have uninstalled the game and will not make a further complaint. There is no point with patronizing and uncaring people like you at the helm.
Good day.
- Rokebo733 years agoSeasoned Ace@TheHunterGT Hey man.
Some cpu are able to work under high temps, and wil l not start throtteling. Youre thermal security could be customized.
And about OC, a game is not made with an OC system in mind/purpose.
So any hardware/software related issues is at own risk !!!
IF ya dont OC CPU anD GPU temp will; not reached that high !
And issues is often a combo of "things"
Bios settings+ upgrades, Bios settings and hardware , Hardware and software settings, hardware and installed software, bios _ hardware + software , and so on !
To find your issues youre need to start from scratch , no OC, installed as it came out of the box ! Make sure all hardware is compatible.
Even with 10 Fans in a case , you could get issues if there isnt a good AIRFLOW !!!
So many things that could cause issues and to complain about !!!
Its probarly a combo from game software and your installed software/hardware settings/installs.
Of course we all could help ya for tips and solutions ! Post a dxdiag, tell us what trouble shoot you have done ?
Cheers , no hard feelings, PEACE !!! @EA_Leeuw, Aren't you ashamed to release an unfinished game? on top of that, 1 year has tons of bugs????? what's going on with your dice mates?? I'm sick of you

TheHunterGT is absolutely spot on.
I have a Ryzen 7 5800x paired with a 3080 and being liquid cooled by a 280mm NZXT Kraken z63. Prior to season 3 my CPU temps never went above 67C. I was never even aware of the cpu usage until after this update I noticed my CPU temps shooting up 10-15 degrees. That worried me and I assumed my hardware was failing. I almost began trouble shooting it by looking into thermal paste, cleaning, chipsets, and more... Fortunately before I went down that rabbit hole I stumbled upon this thread and noticed this is a very common problem. The only way I am able to play this game is to create the user.cfg file and limit the corecountprocessor. Then, I have to deal with steal unusually high cpu usage and degraded game performance.I will not be exploring any adjustments to my computer other than the user.cfg file. This isn't "my side" this is "your side" of a problem (ea/dice). You need to fix or undo whatever you did to cause this problem. My computer ran this game very well prior to season 3. It's been almost a month and the root cause hasn't been addressed. Like Hunter stated.. this is insane that it's being dismissed. I don't care what the thermal limits, don't care about curves/fans, bla bla.. My game ran fine. My system is new(ish). The update that was pushed out is the problem.
- AOD_Mikezilla3 years agoNew Scout@Rokebo73 No bro. The issue is not the hardware it's the software. My temps were never above 67c prior to season 3. The new "better cpu performance" adjustment dice/ea pushed out has caused many people to have 100%cpu utilization just simly sitting at the game menu. I never even acknowledged how much CPU usage this game was utilizing because my temps were always below 67c. Ive got a 5800x/3080. Don't try to dismiss the issue or be a computer wizard acting like it could be anything. The man obviously knows his system and about how this works.
- Hello, flockI've just returned from the FIFA World Cup.Are there any new update on the problem
- Rokebo733 years agoSeasoned Ace
@AOD_Mikezilla that is not correct , those days games are made to run with 8 cores from your cpu !
And in youre case , you got an 5800x who got 8 cores , so all of them will be used for the game , this means cores for system it self arent "there" , they are but at the cores the game also use !
So your cpu need to do a lot of work to RUN the game and system !
In game console you could enter the command render.drawscreeninfo 1
This will display the ammount of cores total at your system and how much cores the game is using !
And yes i believe they will make a fix to support the middle/low end cpu's for running this game at their system, for now try USER.CFG , play around with the ammount of cores ya enter in this file.
So at the end your able to play !
And yes it coulde be all kind of "THINGS" with and in your system that could cause all kind of issues !
A cpu with temps in the 80 is not weird/rare !!!!!!!! People should be more friends with google so they could find all kind of info about this !!
Dont get me wrong, im not in attack mode , no hard feelings !!!
But know youre system and know how everything works is a big difference !!
Cheers and Peace !!! - AOD_Mikezilla3 years agoNew Scout
Prior to patch cpu was less than 60% and temps never over 67c. Post patch pegged at 100% while sitting in the menus not even in the game. Temps 10-15 degrees higher.
No other program / game is working my cpu like this. This is a developmental error not a user end hardware/configuration problem. The more people like you that try to say otherwise are justifying the inaction of dice/ea.
This issue has existed for one month. Cheers
- @Rokebo73 i dont think most here are running low end / middle pc specs when i see theyr dxdiag
the more plausible situation, given the patch history and quality of this game is, that the game is very poorly optimized for PC.
People are running other games that are more taxing than 2042 with no efforts but this game taxes suddenly up to 90 of the system ? yeah sure buddy - Rokebo733 years agoSeasoned Ace@Bolvard check your ammopunt of cores, exclude the ones you get witrh virtualization enabled !
Cheers ! - EA_Leeuw3 years ago

@TheHunterGT, the keyword in my previous post is the word "especially". 🙂 Stress testing software makes a CPU work differently than actual real-world usage. Hence it is to be expected that you see a difference in temps.
But to stop this thread from going off-topic too much; this thread is about CPU usage (load) of a constant 100% since the Season 3 update, this thread is not about CPU temps. Because even with a CPU usage of 100%, it is very well possible to cool the CPU as this depends on the cooling solution of the machine. 🙂
I would also recommend taking a look at the Battlefield 2042 - Known Issues list, as this mentions a workaround for the CPU 100% load issue.
Thank you.
- @EA_Leeuw Hopefully Leeuw, your team will be able to solve this issue BEFORE the end of Season 3.

I have patiently waited for a fix to this problem, but seeing none, I would like to add my voice to this issue. Like countless others, I have also experienced 100% CPU usage since the most recent patch, making the game unplayable. I have never previously experienced any problems with CPU load.
As a 35-year-old doctor and battlefield veteran, it has been extremely disappointing to see the dismissive attitude and delay with which DICE is responding to this issue. Your listed workarounds are clearly ineffective. Despite my limited technical knowledge, I have spent hours trying various suggested fixes to no avail. It is clear that this is an issue specific to BF2042.
As a community manager, it is important for us to hear that you continue to acknowledge this issue and give us reassurance that a fix is being worked on. I fear that your developers do not know a solution other than reverting the most recent patch, which is unlikely to happen as it has helped optimize the game for many while ruining the experience for a relatively smaller, yet substantial, number of players. Do not ignore this segment of your community; we deserve better.
My dxdiag:
I am also still experiencing this issue. Whilst the CPU load isn't exactly 100% (low 90's), the game is consuming much more than it did during Season 2, using the exact same PC with the same specs. This is causing low fps problems and makes the game unenjoyable. I hope this is fixed soon.
If you use MSI AFTER BURN or something to limit the power of your GPU, if the GPU hit the bottle neck then CPU are free, and CPU are free there is no shuttering.
It's work on my case when i run 4090 on i5 8600k =]]
Why is there no update on this?
You guys work like an indie company.
The serious issues have been apparent for about one month and you can't fix anything.
What a shame.
