Re: Constant 100% CPU utilization since Season 3 update

I managed to solve my Stuttering, FPS drops and Crashes for now, CPU usage on this game is still somewhat high depending if it’s 64 player or 128, A few tweaks here and there helped reduce CPU usage down to 40-50% usage on average. Here is what I believe the summary worked for me

- First, No over clocks on CPU,GPU,Ram

- I did multiple things to get where I’m at,

1- new windows install ( New 22H2 Ver )

2- All current windows updates complete & Drivers as well ( Station drivers has the latest )

3- debloated Win 11 with TIW11 app ( love this app ,just be careful what you take out and modify )

4- Removed the hellish software ( Armory crate ) This bloatware asus brought has high CPU usage, buggy, just look online and the nightmare it has, this reduced load on my CPU (12900k)

5- I used Some nice free Fan control software from GitHub to control and make various profiles for my fan  curves, ( look up Fan control ) best simple software that has better features than any other software

- After all that loaded in windows with  no clock on CPU, No clock on Ram, No clock on GPU,

- Loaded the game with No issues , No crash, No stutter, I even used MSI afterburner for monitoring no issues,

- after I confirmed it’s stable, ( going 3-5 rounds no crash no stutter ) I enabled XMP1 5600mhz CL28 ram

- No issues as well, I underVolted my GPU at same clock speed, No issues as well

- Managed to run ultra settings 120FPS locked and just turned off motion blur and Two other settings I believe to help reduce load on CPU,

- interesting enough GPU usage is still 50% or so,

- It would be really nice if they patch this issue and utilize GPU usage instead. .

So that’s how I fixed my issues, It could be a combination of several things, But mainly guys it’s the CPU OC,, some users report lowering their clock 200mhz and their fine, I was OC at 5GHZ with adaptive mode, all other games are fine except BF2042, interesting enough went to stock auto settings and my darn CPU boosts at 5.1ghz! in game it’s 4.9ghz! So I won’t tinker with OC as it’s not needed, and now BF2042 is super stable, I recommend at least going stock, or wiping drive first, uninstall unnecessary software like RGB stuff, armory crate, etc. and slowly game till your are stable and add whatever software/OC  one at a time. Alright peace !

I havent played for a few months but before then i was able to play decently with low settings around 80fps on my old potato PC. I recently upgraded and decided to see how it performs on BF and was losing my mind wondering why my old pc with parts 5 years old or more was running this smoother than my new PC.. Was second guessing myself for a minute after i tried every combination of settings in and out of game and still my CPU was running 100% from the moment the game opens and I get into the menu to the moment I close it. Well atleast after reading this page I know why.

You're in luck with your 12900k.

I've noticed most people here reporting the problem have the 9th generation Intel processor. Those don't support Hyperthreading, so your fix will probably not work for others.

  • Come to think about you maybe right, But this problem started after S3 , I’ve seen similar problems start after S2 as well, I’ve been out not playing this game since release, I’m enjoying the game finally. I hope they find a fix for this issue.

100% started for me when Chapter 3 released.  Before that the game ran smooth.  I find it ridiculous that were almost 400+ posts in and this issue still persists despite a recent update.

What the heck is going on at DICE?

  • @ItsLeaah No clue what you are referring to as hyperthreading, even my single core Pentium 3ghz had it.. It all depends on the model you buy.

Something about the OC refferal. Most think it is all about higher frequencies but that is not important in BF 2042. If you do an overclock for this game aim for a frequency of all cores like 4500ish with low voltages... Eg my 10900k runs happy at 4800mhz on all cores at 1.2volts.
The out of the box clocks/voltages on many motherboards is badly implemented. Too high voltages meaning your cpu and power management area will become hot. My 10900k will boost to 5ghz plus (onn one core) out of the box, but the Asus board pumps almost 1.4volts through the cpu, making it run close to 90C.

My 2 cents is that Hyperthreading indeed has no added value for this and many other games. The same counts for the E cores on Intels 12th and 13th gen. Junk for gamers, unless you can put affinity on those for your discord and other stuff.
