Re: Disabling Console

There's a couple of work arounds since there is no option in Battlefield.

  • You can pull the key off the keyboard
  • Or you can use 3rd party software like KeyTweak to disable the key

People have been asking DICE for this feature for many years, and you'll probably be waiting many more if you expect DICE to take any action.

Haha seriously Why is this tagged as solved? Well it is kinda.. but it isn't an acceptable solution. Dice should make it possible to keymap this button.. its stupid that it's put next to one of the most used buttons in the game. The 1 button. At least on a EU keyboard. Not sure how it is on an american keyboard. As some other guy said.. this has been a problem since for ever.

  • @Bempa It is also next to the 1 key on an American keyboard, and I made it the answer because I doubt any way to disable it will come anytime soon lol

Yeah was just thinking u had a good point about it being a problem, and they won't do anything else people think it's a problem. Maybe it should be in some suggestions forum part instead of the technical issues page anyways.

  • I have died many times because of this. Not only is it beside 1 but very close to escape.

had the same problem in bfv.

  • How to disable the ingame console via config file

    1. Open PROFSAVE ( located in your C:\USERNAME\Documents\BF2042\settings directory ) file with Notepad++ ( Win Editor should do the job too seems to cause problems use Notepad++)

    2. Search for "console" and change the "1" to "0". DO NOT EDIT OR DELETE ANY OF THE ASCII CONTROL CHARACTERS (STX,NUL etc), this will corrupt the config file.

    3. Boot up BF2042 and the console wont open up anymore after hitting the console key.

  • @Flakstar Tried this multiple times, but each time it didn't work. Each time I tried it, I get the ID_PC_CORRUPT_SAVE_BODY error message.

    @Degree234

Most likley some of the control characters in the file got deleted/corrupted and now the file cant be parsed in properbly. I´ve been using this method fp BFV and 2042, both are working fine.

Did you use the Windows editor? If so, try Notepad++.

  • Restore the file first. Deleting the file and starting the game should do the trick, if you got no backup of the file.

  • @Flakstar Aye.... GOOD IDEA... EA won't let ya do that! /sigh
And "taking the button off" doesn't really take the button off.. you can still depress it I'm thinking... LAME, EA!!!
  • I deleted the 1.. typed a 0... File>Save

SHOULD work but it doesn't ☹️

  • Wow...

I tried this. Loved the idea but didn't work ☹️

WARNING: Your save file(s) are corrupt and could not be read by the

game. Continuing will overwrite the corrupt save file.

Only it does not overwrite the edited file

I have completely Uninstalled EA and BF and deleted ALL leftover files/folders and registry entries. Downloaded from scratch and reinstalled

    And it STILL says that.

I cannot play the game now.

    Windows 10, naturally.

I will not be reinstalling Windows to play BF2042

    Great program you have, EA

Your patch today * UP my UI... that is what started all of this.

Your CONSOLE hot-keyed RIGHT NEXT to the '1' key... GENIUS!!

And then refusing to FIX YOUR MISTAKE.... really???

    Pfft

Guess I'm all done messing with this franchise ☹️

    UPDATE

I lied to yas.. I was gonna delete these posts but I'm going to leave them JUST IN CASE someone else finds this thread and has similar experience

It IS WEIRD that a fresh install of the game from scratch gave the SAME ERROR.... file corrupted... :o

But the game will overwrite the file

You must keep clicking through that error box. After clicking it 2 or 3 times, it, and the larger window freeze up. I kept restarting or manually closing down the game at this point. This time I kept moving my mouse and right-clicking to get the windows to cycle (may not have been necessary and may not have actually DID anything)

It finally fires up the game. The freeze must be the game overwriting the "corrupt file"

Fresh install... don't understand HOW it could be corrupt unless there is a cloud backup of your saved game files?? Possibly I guess.

Anyhoo... keep clicking the OK button for the "continuing will overwrite the file" and it will fix the game

It WILL NOT fix the CONSOLE problem!

The patch I did to start the day screwed up my UI but the fresh install seems to have fixed that as well! 🙂

(this could have been UI settings in truth. they are all now default again and I'm not having troubles as of yet)

Hope all this helps someone! 🙂
