Came here looking for this as I thought I was going crazy. I was in a tank and zoomed in on a helicopter that didn't have a friendly icon above it so I assumed it was an enemy. I got a great shot on it it but it did nothing. I only got a friendly icon when I hit my Q button to spot it.
