I have a triple monitor setup, one with hdr, while the others were non hdr.
This is what worked for me:
With BF2042 open in fullscreen in solo match
1. Disconnect all monitors starting with non hdr monitors from gpu.
2. Reconnect HDR monitor to gpu, but in a different port.
3.Once confirm HDR is working, reconnect the rest of the monitors.
Setting custom HDR profile broke the HDR again.
For those with Single HDR monitor, maybe try another port?
Okay so after trying everything to fix this issue your comment made me try that one thing that I didn't try because I never thought this would be the issue. What I did:
Unplugged and replugged the monitor into the same port, no change, still washed out.
Unplugged and replugged the monitor in a different display port, and HDR finally works for the first time in months.
Plugged it back into the original port, the game crashed. Opened it again, HDR still works.
This is so stupid but can you guys also try and see if this works for you?
Already deleted the game and not re-downloading it to try this. Plus Not going to unplug and plug in my monitors every single time I play this game. That's just stupid. Even if it works for a play session that's not worth it at all. Fix the game dice. Like you should of 4 months ago. Now that's a simple fix.
As i mentioned before (earlyer in this topic).
You need to make sure that HDR is supported.
Multiple Monitor setup , Monitor brand / Specs should (if possible) be the same, color depth , same type cable for connection to the gpu.(only HDMI or Only DP ect) ect ect ect
There are a lot of topics at the internet about this issue , some issues are caused by Windows 10 / 11 it self , some related to Display driver !.
Also multiple screen/display setups could cause issues, different refresh rates, different resolutions , diferent color depts , HDR / SDR ect ect ect.
Also meke sure youre monitor is installed in device manager , ya use the correct color profiles ect ect ect.
Monitor settings could also cause some issues , if 1 monitor is in Gaming mode while the other is in Standing mode for example !!!! <<-- Check it
Some software / game need to be HDR enabled in windows first , while other software / games HDR can be enabled in the Game it self !!!
Ya realy need to hunt down Monitor specs / settings ect ect ect
Rollback a drive isnt / cant be done that easy, example -> check nvidia additional information.
For nvidia to rollback a driver version, ya should uninstall Nvidia in windows by using SETTINGS / APPS and delete nvidia driver (make sure ya pre downloaded new driver already).
Hope you guys got the answer / fix , just check internet for it !

If so, then why is it that this issue only happened after 4.2.0?
It cant just be coincidence that all of us suddenly had added additional monitors or updated our drivers after the update.
This issue was known to have happened after the update. I had the same setup before the update and HDR was working well. I did not update drivers nor tweaked any other additional settings. The only thing that had changed was the version of BF2042.

The problem is on the Battlefield side. HDR stopped working for MANY of us, across multiple configurations, multiple monitor types, as soon as 4.2.0 was released.

If you want use HDR in the game... Open your windows calculator when you are playing and click on "Always visible", Reduce it to the smallest size you can.
Move the calculator where you want and return to the game. Normally after that the HDR is on. (After go on setting to calibrate HDR)
The problem come from a overlay in the game but when you use your calculator during the game, it's as if you were still on Windows, and the messed-up DICE filter is no longer active.
I know it sounds like a McGyver technique, but it works for me, and the size of the calculator doesn't bother me while I'm playing ^^.
It would be interesting to find something that could be displayed during the game even smaller than the calculator.

Big news everybody!!! With the new update today the HDR issue is………..still a * PROBLEM!!!! I have been a DICE defender for the longest time. This is *. DICE need to fix this *! It’s been months!
Dude!! You are the man!!! After months with no fix or not even a single care from the pathetic pos dice team you have figured it out! I re-downloaded it after seeing your work around and it works. The nice part too is that I have a secondary monitor and I just moved the calculator over to that screen and it doesn't block my gaming on my main and hdr still works with it on the secondary screen. Haven't played this game in almost half a year because of this issue and the lack of interest from the pathetic dice team. I mean why would they care? They already stole our money when they released the game in it's pre-alpha state for full price. But anyways thank you!! I'm sure a lot of people in here are not caring anymore and have uninstalled this game but if they happen to come and check this thread for fun I'm sure they will be happy to see a very easy work around to the issue that has plagued this game for almost a half a year. .
I was hopeful that the calculator would work for me, as I still haven't found a reliable work-around. But no luck for me sadly.

Did you check the box on the calculator so that it always stays on top of the other applications? (See photo)
I'll summarize the procedure.
1. Launch the game
2. Do "windows flag" to be on the desktop
3. Activate the calculator and check the box that allows the calculator to be always on top of the other applications.
4. Return to the game and calibrate HDR via the Battlefield 2042 options.
5. If this doesn't work, leave the calculator and switch to borderless window mode.
If dual screen available:
6. Before launching the game, extend the display on both desktops and place the calculator after point 3 and before point 4, straddling the two screens (as far as possible towards the screen not displaying the game).
When this doesn't work, always remember to calibrate HDR and switch between full screen and window with border.
Of course, you can do all this with HDR enabled from the start under Windows ;-)

I am so sick of it being the only game that doesn't work. Hopefully one day they'll fix it.
The calculator app is unreliable as it can still get affected by improper monitor HDR gamut settings instead of locking it in correctly.
Use the VESA DisplayHDR app, I posted basically this exact fix here months ago, except if you use that app it will always work because its made to force HDR on your monitor:
EDIT: And also wanna say, if this fixes it for you then its moreso a windows HDR issues rather than a BF2042 issue. There are still ways BF2042 could have implemented HDR to avoid this, but this happens in almost every HDR game for windows for me and I need to use this fix.
If this works for you, then perhaps your HDR is malfunctioning if it doesn't work in any game for you.
HDR functions perfectly for me in games that support it, except for 2042.
I've noticed that toggling HDR on then off again also keeps the colour broken for SDR until I alt-tab. They've really stuffed something up with the game colour settings.
It honestly feels like there's some sort of overlay or something intercepting the setting. This is with the Steam and IGO overlay off and all other possible overlay programs closed.
I FINALLY FOUND A WORKAROUND THAT HELPS ME!
I finally tried swapping ports on my GPU and It actually worked. I hadn't tried it sooner as it just seemed to stupid imo.
But If I click on "HDR CALIBRATION" in game, it completely breaks it again until I swap ports again.
Hopefully this helps EA fix it.
I reached out to a DICE developer working on 2042 and he responded. I sent him a link to this forum and he said he would let the team know. 🤷🏻♂️

Another season update and still NO FIX for the nightmare HDR bug that 4.2.0 blessed us with. * you DICE. This is horse *. At this point we should get a friggin refund. Idc how many hours we’ve played.
Just went to AM5 platform, new motherboard, new cpu, updated bios, clean windows 11 install, clean Nvidia drivers, and then loaded up 2042. HDR is 🥁 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
