I cleared my download cache:

Clear Your Cache on Steam

1. Start the Steam app
2. Click on the “Settings” menu in the top left corner
3. Select the “Downloads” tab
4. Click on the “Clear Download Cache” button on the bottom
5. Confirm by clicking “OK“

Clear Your Cache on Origin

1. Start the EA Desktop app
2. Click on the three dashes button in the top left corner
3. Select “Help” feature
4. Click on “App Recovery” option
5. Select “Clear Cache” option

Then Origin offered me the latest BF2042 update (which I had heard on YouTube was out but it hadn't offered me for the past 2 days).
I then downloaded and installed the latest update.
