Re: Ranger won't enter Orbital D1 interior on 128 player Conquest

Ok, this video demonstrates it:

https://youtu.be/Yh7I74RWwPg

My microphone mysteriously cuts out a couple of times, but I think it's still pretty clear. Please let me know if you need any additional information or clarification. I'm happy to provide anything needed.

I made this video on a Portal server since otherwise I would be at the mercy of the random map selection to get onto a 128 player conquest round on that map. I couldn't make a solo all-out warfare server for it outside of Portal, because those are limited to 64-player conquest, and this base is only accessible on 128-player conquest.

Incidentally, when I was making this video I first tried loading up a 64-player conquest server, to see if I could get over to that spot just for purposes of making this video. I could not, both because that base is out of bounds but also because it looks like the doors of the building are walls on the 64-player map. That is, on the 64-player version of the map, the doors into that interior are not traversable. That got me thinking -- I wonder if Ranger is using the 64-player version of the map when he is doing his pathfinding. If so, that would explain why he isn't able to figure out how to get inside of D1, since on the 64-player version it's closed off. Just figured I'd mention it.

@mitcharfGood job with the video. I think this is probably intended? The two doorways into that bunker are incredibly small. Soldiers basically have to go single file in/out of them, so I don't think it's a good idea to allow the ranger into there. Otherwise someone could just order their ranger to sit there in the middle of the corridor or the doorways. Even inside the room itself is very small. Telling a ranger to puppy-guard that place would be very easy and quite annoying for attackers to breach.

@Anarchiesx It's certainly possible that it's intended, but I'd be surprised if so. It's the only room on any map where this happens, even though there are others with doors of a similar size. Plus, you could still park the ranger just in front of either door, if your goal was to have him guard them. This really just stops the ranger from being able to fight inside the room itself.

I'll also note that as much as I adore Rangey, he isn't so formidable that I think they'd restrict him from the room on that basis. 🙂

@mitcharf, cheers for the video, nice one.

It could indeed be that it is intended. But I get you, it would be nice if the Ranger would come inside with you to go through the tunnel.

Will make sure to pass it on as feedback. 🙂

Just wanted to update that this problem still exists after the 5.0 patch.

Also, there is further evidence that this is not intentional, because Ranger is able to enter a similarly enclosed room on the new Reclaimed map.

I've retested with the 5.2 patch and this bug still occurs.
