Why do i need the xbox game pass for a game i bought?

So basically i bought a code for Battlefield 2042 and played a little until i realised it was buggy and this was at the launch of the game so kinda normal and i was like "you know what i'll return to this game later" so here i am now trying to launch my game but can't because it says i need the xbox game pass for whatever reason. I would love some help or answers from developpers as fast as possible thank you.
