Battlefield 6 Beta And Moving Forward Feedback:
Addressing The Situation: (Note/Opening Statement)
- Battlefield 6 is a step forward compared to the previous two Battlefield titles (V and 2042), but not quite on par with Battlefield Bad Company 2, 3, 4, or 1 when it comes to the overall game play and features, there is features that makes it cut short.
- Overall the game was enjoyable and engaging, with moments that did undershot what the Battlefield series used to be, but it is the improved steps which is give me hope in this game. Battlefield 4 started rough when it launched, to then flip around to a masterpiece, hopefully this may be one of those cases for the game to enter into a label of greatness.
- Overall, with some polishing, additions/removals, and improvements I believe this game can be successful and have a strong player base for the long term. Furthermore, great care and passion into this project (not killing the game within a 1 year time frame), with the listening of feedback and the community from the Dev team, I believe will set stage for this game to thrive.
- Within this discussion post there will be suggestions that may be difficult to code, or some statements that may be greatly detailed. This feedback is in hopes the Dev team will read the feedback to restore the Battlefield feel/atmosphere/game play in Battlefield 6 and bring back what Battlefield used to be.
Weather/Environmental Elements:
Pros:
- The sky box is visually appealing graphically.
Cons:
- The sky box lacks life. (No presence of birds, no movement noticeable to the eye.
- Lack of wind.
- Lack of trees and shrubbery reacting with the wind.
Discussion/Suggestions:
- Each map was a day time map with slight atmospheric change.
- Suggestion: The addition of volumetric clouds. Bringing 3D rendered clouds I believe will be a new feature for Battlefield and bring some more life to the pilots in the air, while also giving visual appeal to the maps.
- Suggestion: To add more interaction between the environment and the map, there should be weather elements introduced, with the addition of day/night cycles. With the day/night cycles, each map should start at random times of the day, and slowly inch towards another time as the match moves on to resemble time passing as the match progresses. (Example: When the match starts, it is noon time, sun right up above in the sky. As you progress closer to the end of the match, the sun should start setting downwards going into sunset hours, creating a sense of time passing and offering different map visuals as the battle rages on). With these different weather elements, I believe it will spice up the game play and add more immersion to the players experience. We see the presence of weather in Battlefield 1, and a little bit of it in 4 on certain maps. In Battlefield 6, the weather should be randomized on each map, so it will not be guaranteed to get the weather event in one match, offering a variety in a sense of map play style. Natural disasters are not needed in this game, and if anything, it did not fit within the game it was tried in (Battlefield 2042), it made the game feel farther away from what Battlefield is, if any natural disaster is consider, hurricanes or tropical storms the most (as seen in Battlefield 4 on one map), if not maybe flooding, nothing more.
Weather effects that should be considered to add:
- Rain/Hail (With more severe storms creating lighting off in the maps distance)
- Windy Day
- Cloudy Day
- Snow/Blizzard
- Fog/Dense Fog
- Dust Storms/Sand Storms
- Aurora Borealis (Depending if maps are in the geography to make this event occur)
Destruction:
Pros:
- Destruction is relatively fair. (Could use more in some areas)
- Dust developed after destruction.
- Building shakes when it is crumbling apart or taking heavy damage.
Cons:
- Using any type of explosives does the same level of destruction to infrastructure, there is no hierarchy in explosive damage. (Example: I shoot an RPG at one face of the buildings wall, the whole face of that wall comes crumbling down. Nope, not a small hole, the whole face of the building crumbles. I do the same thing with a tank shell, the same results, I've even seen a couple impacts of grenades do the same amount of damage).
- No options to destroy apart of a building to access the other side of the building. (No option to blow open a wall to flush out campers on the other side if needed.) In Battlefield 1, camper wants to camp in building, fine, building begone from the face of the planet, atom by atom! Battlefield 4 and 4, camper in building, fine, hole in wall, and for small buildings, top of the building will be the new ground.
- No panic in soldiers voice as seen in Battlefield 1 or V when an explosive lands in damaging/fatal distance from the solider.
Discussion/Suggestions:
- Destruction in Battlefield 6 is a massive improvement from Battlefield 2042, and in areas, an improvement from Battlefield V. The destruction came nowhere near Battlefield 1, and I do not expect it to due to the density of assets in the one area and the demand load that will put on ones device. The destruction is more comparable to Battlefield 3 and 4, there is areas where Battlefield 6 does better in destruction compared to Battlefield 3 and 4, and other areas it lacks in majorly.
- When explosives impact the ground there is no presence of a crater, just a black stain with some dirt and smoke effects. Compared to Battlefield 1, an explosive goes off, it leaves a crater in the ground you can use for cover, it also adds more to the war immersion and impacts game play to provide an area of safety for pushes. The bigger the explosive, the bigger the crater is in Battlefield 1; Battlefield 6 needs to bring back this missing feature.
Gun Play And Kill Time:
Kill Time: (Critical Fix ASAP)
Cons:
- Extremely fast kill times.
- Shotguns one shot sniping people
- AR's should not be drilling people in 5-8 bullets (Sometimes it feels like it is much less). We are getting real life gun play it seems like if not close to Insurgency Sandstorm type of game play.
Gun Play: (Critical Fix ASAP)
Cons:
- Lock on. (Aim assist) (Seems to be present for Mouse and Keyboard and controller, I know my aim was not that god tier at moments)
- The attachment system, resembles and operates too much like the modern day Call Of Duty gunsmith, the end results just leads to balancing issues, everyone running the same gun, same attachments. (The creation of meta weapons)
- Recoil on certain guns in all classes of guns needs to be evaluated, some have little to no recoil, other guns have major recoil. (With attachments equipped)
- Shell casings sound the same on all ground types and surfaces when coming out of the gun.
- Gun do not build up dust, dirt, water, or scratches when going against the elements of the battlefield. (We see these effects in Battlefield 4 with the rain, 1 and V with the ground getting mud on the guns and other environmental debris present on the gun)
- Sniper scope glare. The glare on the scope when aiming in is like one who is trying to watch Oppenheimer test his secret product. It is so incredibly bright when aiming at one, you just hope one will not notice you shining the sun at them to just get one sniper kill.
- No bullet drop or no damage drop to guns. (Needs To Return ASAP)
- Bullet drop needs to make a quick return, what is the point of the markings in the scope if the bullets do not drop with distance. We had bullet drop in Battlefield 3, 4, 1, and even in V there was some (V went far). Make sniping great again and make sniping have skill again.
- Reviews some reloading times amongst some guns. Reloads for certain weapons feel very fast paced.
Discussion/Suggestions:
- The kill time is excessive. Way too fast for Battlefield, this is Call Of Duty level of kill time. This is something that needs a fix before it launches because Battlefield 6 just becomes a run and gun fest where everyone is running AR's or SMG's, Shotguns, or worst of all grenade launcher users, making snipers and pistols useless.
- With there being no bullet drop or damage drop there was moments I was being beamed with AR's from across the map and moments where I was able to AR snipe people. An AR is not supposed to do the snipers job, scout has a sniper for long range missions, it should not be left into every other gun in the game to be able to perform a snipers job. What is even crazier is when you AR snipe, it feels like it still does the same damage to a person from a mile away. Imagine sniping and dying to an AR 2 conquest flags away from you. Not a great feeling at all.
- Suggestion: Turn off aim assist for everyone and bring skill back to Battlefield game play core. (If aim assist is to still be present for everyone during launch, it needs to be turned all the way down, it is too powerful)
- Suggestion: Get rid of the new attachment system that resembles too close to Call Of Duty's failed gunsmith and bring back the old attachment system as seen in Battlefield 3, 4, and 1. This new attachment system will most likely end up like Call Of Duty's gunsmith where it will push everyone to one gun, same attachments, and just lead to endless balancing issues. The old system worked, provided zero issues, no need to fix what is not broken.
Movement: (Critical Fix ASAP)
- The movement in Battlefield 6 is criminal.
Pros:
- When you are running around corners and turning, your character leans which is really cool to see.
- The walking and running animations feel natural.
- Giving an option to dive is nice.
Cons:
- Spammable movements (Diving, sliding, crouching, jumping)
- Sliding on every surface
- An UNHOLY running speed for Battlefield, for a character with 0 stamina limits for all that running. (Even though stamina was not present in previous Battlefields, just running like a maniac you would expect them to get tired in this game at the speeds they are pulling off)
Discussion/Suggestions:
- An easy fix. Slow down the movement to Battlefield 1 movement, or even Battlefield 3, 4, Bad Company 1 or 2, do not let the character run at this cursed speed. Speeds like these are too much like Call Of Duty, run and gun and call it a day, no skill required.
- Suggestion: Make the characters get worn out if the movements are trying to be spammed or used in quick recession, or find a way to limit all this fast and crazy movement, that movement is not what is found in any Battlefield game.
- Suggestion: Add an option to have a really fast short period sprint/charge, kind of what is seen in Battlefield 1 when charging with the gun, at the cost of the character getting tired after the short period charge.
Flight/Air Vehicles:
Fighter Jets:
Pros:
- Graphically nice
- Sound wise, impressive, sounds fantastic
- Damage to air vehicles: Fair
- Love how the air vehicles crash lands, very creative, that is what I call future Only In Battlefield Moments.
- When the fighter jets are damaged, they loose in their performance, nice detail.
- Flight speed feels like fighter jets, the speed is done right.
Cons:
- Turns like a boat/lacks maneuverability.
- Damage to ground units: Horrible (Besides the bomb which is fair)
- Feel a little clunky to control, light polishes is all it needs I feel like.
Attack Helicopters:
Pros:
- Does it job at handling ground units with fair damage.
- Fair amount of health.
Cons:
- Feels clunky to fly. (Not as maneuverable as Battlefield 4, but could get used to this, it is not awful, but it is not great either, it is more in a neutral position)
- Not great at air to air combat.
- Flight speed feels very fast, but that could be the maps are very small. (Which I think it is the map size case)
- Propellers felt visually off.
Discussion/Suggestions:
- Suggestion: With 5th gen fighters jets, it will be cool to see if those jets get any special maneuvers.
- Suggestion: The ability for the helicopters/fighter jets to kick up some dust and dirt when flying low to the ground and have wind interactions with the trees.
Ground Vehicles/Tanks:
Tanks:
Pros:
- Tanks actually tank
- Tanks do the tank damage
- Tanks do the destruction
- Tanks shake the buildings lightly when driving by it
- The tanks are designed beautifully
- The tanks sound design is incredible
- Tanks have a strong points and weak points
- You are able to live getting ran over by a tank if you crouch below them. (Only Works With The Bradley Tank)
Cons:
- Anti-Air tank may need a little buff, also some new spawn points for the tank; people be rolling around the Anti-Air tank like it is made to kill ground units.
Ground Vehicles: (Light Armour As Well)
Pros:
- Bouncy, but not too bouncy (Miss the vehicles being bouncy, I guess the suspension upgraded throughout the years)
- Typical slidey Battlefield vehicles, nothing new, it slides left and right at moments you know.
Cons:
- No car horns
Maps:
Pros:
- A lot of prop and assets throughout the map in and out of the buildings. The buildings did not feel empty or soulless.
- Visually the maps are great to stare at, nice background details, terrain details off in the distance does lack a little.
Cons:
- Small in every single game mode brought into the beta. Maybe it was regular or small conquest and not large conquest.
- Every map is designed to funnel people into one place, leaving minimal areas to do destruction to counter the choke points.
- Conquest flags (some) and Breakthrough flags (some) felt too close each other.
- Not flight friendly maps. (The maps are too small for flight and going from one side of the map to the other side of the map in a helicopter or fighter jet only takes a matter of seconds) Furthermore the boundaries of the maps are too small for the fighter jets, especially when the jets turn like a boat, there has to be more freedom in the flight design of these maps; which all the maps visually, and one game play wise, lacks in good flight design.
- Where are the ladders, the ramps, the elevators, the stairs to get to the roofs of some of these buildings. If there is flight on these maps we need a way to access the roofs. Other Battlefield games had roof access, this is the first Battlefield I have stumbled across without roof access.
- Not much places to scale the mountains, hillsides, or rock formations.
- Destruction of some buildings on the maps only destroy parts of the building and not the whole building and with some of this destruction, you cannot destroy your way to access the other side of the building or make a hole to the other side of the building for access/leaving the building.
- Bad team base spawn points, able to get snipped in spawn due to poor team spawn placement/prop/asset placement/environmental protection and placement.
Discussion/Suggestions:
- Suggestion: Bring bigger maps, and make the maps be able to support all types of battles, air, sea, and land.
UI: (User Interface)
Pros:
- You get to see your character models
- Game settings looks clean
- BUG: When changing graphical settings, the VRAM output bar of how much VRAM your PC is consuming displays incorrectly)
Cons:
- Week 1 game modes were hidden when Week 2 launched their game mode. The only way to get previous game modes was to navigate through the server search browser. This lead to longer queue times and lack of servers for modes like Breakthrough.
Discussion/Suggestions:
- The main menu UI needs to be reverted back to original if not reworked. It reflect way to much modern Call Of Duty main menu UI and for PC users too much of a console oriented UI and not so much made for PC.
Optimization:
- The game needs a little more optimizing to roll in more frames for less powerful devices. This game is demanding on resources. Higher end hardware should not be rolling 35-60fps for FPS 1% Low as the normal
- Possible Memory Leak: When choosing max settings (Ultra) the game runs around 35-60fps, about 3 matches in, the performance on the same maps dip to an all time low of like 15-25fps on average.
My Computer Build: (If This Helps To Optimize The Game)
OS: Windows 10 Home (Fully Updated)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 FE (10GB)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900x (12 Core, 24 Threads)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 32GB (2 Sticks of 16GB RAM) (32GB Total) (Clock Speed Was Near 2600Mhz)
SSD: Western Digital Black 2TB (Read Speed: 6800mb/s Write Speed: 7000mb/s)
Motherboard: TUF Gaming X570 Plus WIFI
Sound:
- The sound quality of the game is great, the fighter jets sound like jets flying over, the tanks sound like tanks, the ground vehicles are a little quite. Gun sounds, sound great and when hearing firefights off in the distance it sounds like a proper war going on. Overall the sound team did a great job here.
- Main menu music could use a little more tone to it to add to the games atmosphere even deeper, or when taking objectives the music gets slightly repetitive.
Miscellaneous:
- The parachuting needs a major overhaul, it is far from normal. That is the fastest parachute I have ever seen in my life, I cannot imagine if the man will even survive the landing moving at bullet train speeds. (Battlefield 3 and 4 did the parachutes well, even Battlefield 1 did the parachutes well)
- Lack of dirt, dust, and debris on the guns when roaming through the environmental factors.
- No water physics (Let me explain) Far off one of the maps out of bounds (I do not remember the name of the map), there is a stream of water, that is where it was tested. It could be they are saving resources on that map, which will explain why there is no water physics present on that map. When shooting bullets at the water, no ripple effects, no splash, it just went into the water without reaction.
- Characters do not panic when explosives land near them that may be fatal or damaging. (No throw back/or toss elsewhere button as seen in Battlefield V)
Bugs:
- Visual glitches, I guess bodies freaking out, causing a disturbance on the screen blocking most of it while moving rapidly.
- Sound glitch one of my friends stumbled across where the game cut all of its audio but then randomly came back mid battle.
- Spawning in, and sometimes taking damage, health never gets restored and remains 1hp even after attempting to heal it or wait it out.
- VRAM bar incorrectly displaying when changing game settings.
Closing Statement:
- Overall Battlefield 6 is an improvement, and it does have ways from bringing back the Battlefield experience but overall it is a step forward compared to Battlefield V and 2042. Battlefield 4 started out rough when it launched, but EA managed to completely flip that around. With the reputation EA has, there is up and down moments, but I do hope that the Battlefield Devs got this in the bag. All the need to do is spent time to listen to the community, the feedback, and put care and passion into the game. I understand they have a deadline set of when to release this, coding is hella difficult and sometimes the software fights back, but with great care and dedication, also not pulling the plug on this game after 1 year, I see this game going a long way with the proper fixes delivered to it. If they feel like it is not ready this game, I think it will be in their best interest to delay if the game is not complete so they can deliver a quality product. I hope to see this game do well one day and not let down the community and I hope to see Battlefield come back to its original roots of what it once was. Battlefield, with the Only In Battlefield Moments.
- I look forward to seeing you on the battlefield if things run smoothly!
