BF6 General Feedback
I think this game really does have a chance to be great. The build quality and how the gameplay “feels” is great. I have a lot of gripes with some choices they made involving class balancing and vehicles. I point out these choice because BF6 is riding a wave of “going back to the roots of old BF games” whether unintentionally or not that seems to be the case. The choices made in the game that I will reference (mainly just about classes and vehicles) do not follow this trend and I feel could really meaningful improve the game without being humongous sweeping impossible overhauls.
Classes: It is strange to me that the old support and medic are now essentially one class. The current support class has way too many valuable team oriented gadgets: ammo box, defib, and ability to have teammates heal from you(like bf5 where you can grab ammo/health directly from medic/support without needing them to drop you a gadget. I think this will exacerbate the age old complaint of “drop me heals” or “drop me ammo” There is no “heal box” in the game. I think the assault gadget 1 where you get another primary weapon is a bad idea and invites misdirected perceived weapon balancing issues(the shotgun which seems to be a point of controversy). Shotguns are meant to be powerful but if you get engaged at range you’re screwed, seems unfair to give you that kind of versatility. It is just very strange and not at all reminiscent of old Battlefield games at all like it seems they want to emulate. Give the assault class the ammo box and takeaway the primary weapon gadget, give the support an actual med box and takeaway the ammo box from support, the main complaints about the old class system were the self sustaining power of the assault class having assault rifles(which is now fixed since no heal box) and the support explosive spam(which they fixed in bf4), these class changes seem just unnecessary, I get changing things people complain about but most people I think did not have a problem with the old class system other than what I mentioned above. The recon and engineer are fine (don’t let engineer equip 2 rockets at once only problem with engineer)
Vehicles: I feel disrespected honestly. 2 conquest maps in beta. One map gives each one tank and one IFV, the other map gives each team one IFV. I’m not counting unarmored vehicles(jeeps and buggies). Idk man that feels pretty unacceptable. I get that not every map is going to have a lot of vehicles but at that point just take vehicles off that map specifically.(nobody has any problems with some infantry only maps) I cannot think of a conquest from a past BF games that had vehicles but less than 2 tanks. BF6 is trying to emulate old BF games but those vehicle choices seem to be doing the opposite. I hope the full game’s map selection does not reflect this trend.
Weapon Customization: The only thing I ask is make the default attachments that have to be on the gun not cost points. Adjust the max number of points to comp for it. It is really weird seeing 100 points maximum but in reality there are attachments you cannot remove and still cost points so it’s pick 70 not pick 100. Just please try to make it more clear.
Random Point: I might have missed the setting but you should have the option to see a numerical value of your health alongside the health bar.
I really want this game to succeed and do the things people want it to do. My unsolicited advice is to remove open weapons from classes. You want people to buy the game because “it’s like old battlefield” make it like old battlefield. It feels like they are changing the classes for the sake of change and nothing else. There always has to be some sort of exception or caveat to experience “old battlefield” again. Just give the people what they want. Or at the least show us how much of the community wants the open weapon system so we know it’s our people and not devs actively ignoring us.
I really hope this reaches someone who has the power to change things and at least entertains my opinions. Thank you for reading and please let me buy battlefield, don’t give me reasons not to.
