My thoughts on the beta...
What I like:
- I like the map design, how it has a lot of verticality, indoor areas, etc.
- I like the movements, though still not as fluent as BFV or BF1, but I appreciate how they listened and brought back crouch sprinting and added mounting & pining behind cover and body dragging for revives. I like the details of how characters tilt their weapons when taking cover and hitchhiking on a friendly vehicle.
- Game performance is indeed well-optimized. Runs good on old hardware even with very realistic graphics. Huge contrast to how 2042 was launched, where even 3080 couldn't get 60 fps at 1440p.
- I like how so much information is given to players, such as how you were killed, team casualties, teammates' POV when spawning, etc. Especially how each graphics setting affects CPU, GPU and VRAM.
- I like it that they brought back pre-installed anti-tank weapons around the maps.
What I think it can improve:
- Lacking unique game mechanics like the Behemoths in BF1 or calling in airstrikes and building things in BFV.
- I'd prefer seeing the animations when entering & exiting vehicles, and aiming down sight for gunners instead of just zooming in. And for reaching high to climb over a wall, grabbing ammo and health also seem lacking.
- Compared to BF1, sound effects are not as immersive, UI also seems outdated, visual and sound cues for kills & assists are not as satisfying. I can't easily tell whether I got a kill or an assist by looking at the icons.
- I don't want to press 6 on the number row for class gadget but I can't find the remapping option for it.
- I can't tell if I successfully pinged an enemy until I hear my character said a voice line which is easy to miss.
- I think a faint blue outline for friendlies looks less confusing than a blue dot over the heads.
- No HDR and RT?
Overall, not as terrible of a launch as 2042 but I'm not blown away either. They will never trump BF1.
