Second press of melee (F) should cancel knife sprint and return to last weapon
How often have you naturally clicked F to switch back to your rifle from muscle memory, only to find that you have to press 1? I lost a couple tense battles because of this...
Therefore, I'd recommend:
Second press of melee (F) should cancel knife sprint and return to last weapon
Summary:
When sprinting with the knife out, pressing the melee key (default F) a second time should immediately cancel knife and switch back to the last equipped firearm. Currently a second press does nothing, which clashes with muscle memory and causes missed shots.
Rationale (UX & Consistency):
• Aligns with common FPS muscle memory (tap to pull knife, tap again to go back).
• Reduces accidental over-commitment to knife without altering TTK or combat balance.
• Pure quality-of-life improvement; no DPS buff or movement exploit.
Proposal:
• If knife is active: a second tap of melee (F) instantly equips the last non-melee weapon.
• Settings → Controls:
– “Double-press Melee returns to previous weapon” (On/Off, default Off).
– “Return target” (Last Used / Primary Only / Secondary Only).
• Small raise delay on return (≈120–150 ms) to prevent animation-cancel exploits.
• Input buffering: allow a queued melee tap within ≈100 ms of sprint start to trigger the return.
• Interaction safety: HOLD F remains Interact/Revive; double-tap F on knife prioritizes return to weapon.
Validation:
Check controller parity (same on gamepad melee), ensure no faster-than-intended weapon swap, verify behavior near interactables and under high latency.
