Javelin False Positive - BF6 "(84): appshopdrv103.sys" (AsRock's Mobo Software)

This false positive occurs while starting BF6 & BF20242: "This software can not be used at the same time as the game. Please make sure it's not running, or restart your PC. (84): appshopdrv103.sys"

https://imgur.com/8eKNZYm

Platform PC, EA APP
Motherboard: AsRock B650E Taichi

"What is appshopdrv103.sys?"
https://www.freefixer.com/library/file/AppShopDrv103.sys-305544/

https://asrock.com/feature/appshop/

Literally AsRock's Motherboard Software.

Every three or four windows 11 updates, I experience crackling & popping sounds on rebooting after the updates' installation, which is apparently due to AsRock and Microsoft's drivers fighting each other.

To fix this, I have to activate AsRock's barebones Auto Driver Installer via the BIOS, let it auto-run, and update the Thunderbolt drivers (don't ask me why those are connected to a sound issue...).  After updating the TB drivers, I have to shut down the PC and boot it up anew, otherwise the crackling & popping return.

The "bad" software triggering Javelin, AppShopDrv103.sys, is actually AsRock's Driver Utility and available as standalone via their website.  The barebones Auto Driver Installer I have to enable via BIOS to counter the sound issues obviously uses the same signature, which is flagged by your Anticheat Software.

Multiple attempts at re-entering BF6 or BF2042 will only render the same result.
Rebooting the PC sometimes fixes it, sometimes not.

How do I avoid this issue in the future?

Best regards,
Tenchu

    Hi tenchu888 ,

Don't worry: appshopdrv103.sys  is indeed a driver from the ASRock AppShop suite. However, Javelin currently misidentifies it as prohibited software → hence the code (84) you see.

Here are a tips to avoid the problem:

Completely uninstall AppShop from Windows (Control Panel > Programs) and manually download only the necessary drivers from the ASRock website : https://www.asrock.com/support/index.asp

Javelin may also prevent you from launching the game if there is malware on your PC. It is advisable to run an antivirus scan to avoid any problems before starting Battlefield for the first time. You can scan from here : https://www.eset.com/us/home/online-scanner/ and Anti-malware : https://www.malwarebytes.com/

You can uninstall it once the scan is complete.

Tell me if you  need more🙂

  • Hi Steeeeeeve,

I never installed the standalone app (reread what I wrote: sometimes I have to enable the barebones version via BIOS), and I already pointed out what appshopdrv103.sys is.

This kind of "help" where you throw information I already offered back at me isn't very helpful, so I don't need more :)

It seems that AsRock don't remove traces of the barebones version of the app which I have to enable via BIOS.  These traces trigger Javelin, that's all.  In BIOS, the Auto Driver Installer is disabled by default.  When it's enabled, it works only on the next reboot and doesn't auto-run in subsequent reboots as its BIOS status reverts to disabled.  There is no way to delete it in Windows as it does not show up anywhere.

As for antivirus scans... thanks, but I'm not a luddite.

    Regards,
    Tenchu
