You need to be online when logging in for the first time

To play the beta of BF6 I installed the EA-app, logged in, all worked fine. Preload was successful and I already started the game and got to the ingame menu.

Now I need to get those Twitch drops for ealier access! I went to my accoung settings in the EA-app and clicked to manage my settings which opened a webpage on ea.com. I feel I am logged in there because I have access to my account settings.

However, when I try to link my EA and Twitch accounts I need to log in to ea.com for a second time in the process. After I've put in my log in credentials I get an error message to that reads: 'Du musst online sein, wenn du dich zum ersten Mal anmeldest.' The english version of that line is: 'You need to be online when logging in for the first time.'

I guess it is probably some issue with my Windows Defender or my Windows firewall, but I wasn't able to find a solution. I have done extensive research on google but most postings are old and related to problems connected to origin or the EA-app.

Once again: Everything works fine with the app! I cannot log in the WEBPAGE ea.com.

Thank you in advance for any advice! :)

  • Thank you for your reply! I was succesfull in the meantime.

    SOLUTION:

At some point I realized that all my concerns about deleted stuff from my browser are not really valid for my Mircrosoft Edge as I rarely use it and do all the important stuff with Firefox. So I deleted all data I could choose from in Edge.

AND THAT WORKED! :D After deleting and clearing stuff I tried to log in with Edge and got it done!!!

So thank you for your help. Have a nice day and all the best ;)

ps.: I wanted to alter my first post or add an additional post just below my first one where I would state that specifically your point #1 was what did help. That wasn't possible for me. Maybe you can change what I marked as solution accordingly so other users might find what was helpfull to me easier.

    EA_Leeuw: No I don't! No Origin installed.

As I wrote: 'To play the beta of BF6 I installed the EA-app [...]'
and 'Everything works fine with the app! I cannot log in the WEBPAGE ea.com.'

I've attached a screenshot to my original post that shows the log in procedure und the error message I get! It is in german but I've put the english version of the line in the text above. ;)

ps.: As far as I  can tell this forum is part of ea.com aswell (maybe it is still not quite the same...!?). I had to log in here to the forum for this post but I didn't have any problems in this case.

Apollo_Johnson That screenshot clearly shows the Origin login screen, haha, so that threw me off there.

Maybe you can try the following:

    1. Clear Your Browser Cache and Cookies: Old or corrupted data can sometimes cause login issues. Please clear your browser’s cache and cookies, then restart your browser and try again.
    2. Try a Different Browser or Incognito/Private Mode: Sometimes, browser extensions or settings can interfere with the login process. Try using a different browser or opening a private/incognito window to see if the issue persists.
    3. Check Your Internet Connection: Make sure you have a stable internet connection. If you’re using a VPN or proxy, try disabling it, as these can sometimes interfere with authentication.
    4. Review Firewall and Antivirus Settings: Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus software to see if it’s blocking the connection. If this resolves the issue, add EA.com as an exception in your security software.
    5. Sync Your Computer’s Date and Time: Ensure your PC’s date and time are set correctly, as incorrect settings can cause authentication errors.
    6. Flush Your DNS Cache: Open Command Prompt as an administrator and enter: ipconfig /flushdns. Then restart your browser and try again.

Let us know the results :)

  • What I've done so far:

As I run the german version of Windows 11 I ask chatGPT to translate some expressions to the original english ones. Those expressions are written in [brackets]. I hope they are correct.

    1. Didn't do that because I would expect some problems with other webpages and I'm not sure If I could solve them. Would like to avoid this.

    2. I run the extension uMatrix in Firefox which blocks scripts. Did allow all scripts on ea.com. Did deactivate uMatrix completely. Deactivated use of proxy (never touched that setting before). Tried to log in the private mode of Firefox.
Also tried to do it in Microsoft Edge which I rearely use, no extensions installed there, same result.

    3. Normaly I don't have issues with my internet and I don't have at this time. Tried with VPN, set to countries Germany and USA.

    4. Did check on my Firewall and AV settings. I run Windows 11 firewall and MS Defender. Didn't touch those settings before as I'm anything but an expert on these.
I deactivated the firewall for domain, private and public network. Same result during log in. Didn't do anything else because I wouldn't know what I'm doing.
In Defender I clicked [Manage ransomware protection]. Then [Allow an app through Controlled folder access]. I checked on [Recently blocked apps] but there were no apps listed for the past days.
In [Virus & threat protection settings] I deactivated [Real-time protection], [Dev Drive protection], [Cloud-delivered protection] and [Tamper Protection] at the same time, tried to log in with Firefox, same result.

    5. My PC has the right time and date.

    6. I did flush the DNS cache. Was succesfull. After closing Firefox I clicked to manage my account in the EA-app like I did before which started Firefox again. Until now I always got the accounts settings page on ea.com. BUT NOW I need to log in to get there which does still not work. So now I cannot even get to my account settings. :(

Well, that is what I've done so far. No change unfortunately.

I wrote before I have no access to my account settings on ea.com now. THIS WAS WRONG! Still have that access.

  • Need to leave PC for a couple of hours. Coming back later today. Still hope there is a solution for my problem. ;)

If you prefer not to try the troubleshooting steps we've provided, there’s unfortunately not much more we can do at this point. You might consider testing with a different internet connection to see if that helps.

  • Why do you say I 'prefer not to try the troubleshooting steps'?

I wrote in detail what I've done referring to each of the numbers of your list.

Only thing I didn't do was deleting the browser cache because I expected problems accessing all the webpages I use. Is that the reason you claiming I do not try what you said???

This feels like an unfriendly allegation and it does not help the dialog. You can expect me to try to solve my problem and I was happy not to bother someone with this. ;)

I did some googeling and found out that deleting the cache would not result in problems I mentioned but deleting cookies might. Therefore I cleared the cache of Firefox and delete the cookies specifically from ea.com. Does this suffice your advice?

At least I can tell it didn't make a change for the log in problem which I did not expect as the problem is the same in Microsoft Edge.

    Apollo_Johnson

Thanks for your detailed update and for outlining the steps you’ve taken so far.

Since you’ve already cleared your cache and cookies for ea.com, tested with multiple browsers (including one without extensions), and checked your firewall and antivirus settings, you’ve covered the main troubleshooting steps.

At this point, the most effective way to narrow down the cause is to try logging in from a different device (such as a phone, tablet, or another computer) and/or using a different internet connection (like a mobile hotspot or a different Wi-Fi network). This will help determine if the issue is specific to your current PC or network environment.

If you’re able to log in successfully from another device or network, it points to a local issue with your setup. If the problem persists across different devices and connections, it could indicate a broader service issue.

Let us know the results if you’re able to test with another device or connection, and we can advise further based on what you find.
