By lowering the skill floor, you actually raised it

This is not new to Bf6. Its been happening since Bf3 at least. But over time, there are various features that were put into the game that took away avenues that players could demonstrate skill. This was done to make the game more accessible and be in line with other popular FPS titles on the market. Such as:

  1. Auto regenerating health/armor HP
  2. Kill cams
  3. Removal of Commander Mode
  4. Sweet spot kills
  5. Sniper glint
  6. More smaller maps (this is most evident so far in bf6)/less flanking routes
  7. Less vehicle focused maps (this is most evident so far in bf6)

Things of that nature. These features/changes were made so that the players would have an easier time in the game. However, I believe these have had an inverse effect. And it has led to the drama we're seeing now.

Because of the removal of skill expression due to features you see above, what ended up happening is that you made it so that the gap between a "skilled player" and a non skilled player is even larger. Now, a significant portion of the games skill is invested in one area. Reaction time/aiming. If you're really good at this fast paced, flick aiming (and have good hardware). You will be significantly better than the rest of the community. Leading to this drama of a constant flood of cheat accusations when you see infantry going 4-1+ k/d ratios.

Previously in the past, you may have been able to counter these players with things that were not always based on just being really good at aiming.

  • Maybe you don't have an insanely good reaction time, but you're good at lining up shots. So you went sniper and were able to excel at that. Now? With sniper glint and this weapon balance, snipers are not a huge deal. They're fairly easy to counter. Especially once the game fully releases. Now at most they're annoyances. Where the only time people perceiving them as being "good" is poor map design.
  • Perhaps you requested help from the commander and he provided indirect fire support or a UAV to keep the person spotted. Or assign an HVT to the enemy so multiple players would "gain up" on them. This role no longer exists.
  • Another route is flanking. Using the large maps and design to flank on the enemy and take them out via stealth and planning. Now? You've got all these kill cams, auto spotting mechanics when firing, and smaller maps making flanking significantly harder. And if you die fire or kill them once, they know exactly where you are.
  • You chipped them down eventually by keep pressing the attack. Forcing them to either die or go find a medic to restore their health. With restoring health automatically, this isn't that big of a deal anymore.
  • Or you went to a vehicle for help. Requesting an airstrike from a jet, helicopter support, or armor support. Unless they're running C4/Anti vehicle constantly, these were very effective at putting them in their place. But with so many maps being so confined, they either lack vehicles or vehicles are super easy to kill.

However, thanks to the handicap features put in for the more arcadey players, you took away those counters. So now you have these traditionally good "aim gods" playing in these maps and doing insanely well. To the point where people will leave the match. Regardless if they're actually cheating or not. And such experiences ARE and will continue to be a motivator for bad word of mouth and reviews. You took away a series of checks and balances for such players and now they have little to no counter. Except being "better" than they are at aiming. And that's it.

The audience you're seeking to attract with such changes is in direct confrontation with the core of what makes a Battlefield game, Battlefield. This issue has been prevalent in every single Battlefield. And it continues to handicap your game's releases. You will never be like your competitors. Quit trying to attract these players. Even if you appeal to them initially, they will leave and go back to their other games. They always do. So all you're doing is making your "series fans" mad and driving them away for a playerbase that wont stick around.

I don't hope your game does poorly. I never try to have that mindset. But I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't meet expectations. Much for the same reasons previous games have failed to meet expectations. You're making so many of the same mistakes you made with 2042 and previous titles.
