Re: Open Letter to EA – The Oceanic REDSEC Community
I am requesting a refund for my REDSEC Season 4 Battle Pass, and I encourage anyone affected by this issue to consider requesting one as well.
I purchased the Battle Pass with the expectation that I would be able to play on Oceanic (OCE) servers, as I had in previous seasons. Since EA removed the OCE servers, I can no longer access matches with an acceptable connection, making it impractical to play and complete the Battle Pass that I paid for.
The current alternatives are not a reasonable substitute. Casual mode is PvE rather than PvP, and there is effectively no access to Ranked, with players regularly sitting in queue for 45 minutes or more without finding a match.
Under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), consumers are entitled to guarantees that digital products and services will be of acceptable quality and fit for their intended purpose. The removal of local servers has significantly changed the service I purchased and has prevented me from reasonably using the Battle Pass as intended.
The ACCC states that businesses cannot exclude these consumer guarantees simply because a product is digital or because their refund policy says otherwise. In this case, the Battle Pass no longer provides the value or functionality that I could reasonably expect when I made the purchase.
For these reasons, I believe I am entitled to a refund and request that EA provide a full refund for my REDSEC Season 4 Battle Pass.
If my request is declined, I ask that you provide the specific reason for the refusal, including how that decision complies with my rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Best,
Denzel Jackson
