Has anybody been able to Host games on Portal. I have spent hours clicking that Host button and have only gotten in once. The least EA could do is make it a "get into que" option. Is there ever going to be enough capacity to where everybody can use it? You should make a list like at a Pool Table or let us reserve a spot if only so many people can play at one time. It's kind of a rip-off.
I'm about done for today. I just noticed exiting todays Host Button clicking sessions I was @ 11:42 in-game hours when I last was able to play, now I'm @ 14:16. What a Rip. Is Portal even a thing? Has anybody been able to host anything this week? Where is the best place to get information about the servers and if there's any spots open?
@15:06 hours now, still no luck. I'll keep trying for a few days but I'm starting to think I've been had. It's a money for nothing scheme. That server putting out that message 100,000 a minute all over the World is probably working harder than the gaming server next to it they use to they use to be able to say ... look it is there. In time there will be more an more servers pumping out the GLOBAL QUOTA message and the scam will be complete.
I've had enough as well. This isn't what they advertised, and it sure isn't what i paid for. Either add more portal servers, or let us rent verified official servers so we can actually have access to our created experiences. The hit registration and desync is so bad in regular conquest servers it's absolutely unplayable. I just want to relax and kill some bots before i go to bed.
I'm old enough to know better. I should have known it would be like this. I sure shouldn't have trusted EA, and i never will again after this.
past 3 days been trying to host a conquest and getting this message SimGuruArvin EA_Habutai Vaangan how about telling us what the devs are doing with regular updates on the forum. what's the point of the forum if theres no reply from ea staff ?
It is a money for nothing scam 100% by design, just as I described it.
@15:36 hours now, no luck. And as it may seem that I'm spinning my wheels, I am not. EA has not put two and two together yet, but I am bolder and more knowledgeable about scams than they. I know something when I see it, and I say plain as day to EA ... I want a piece. Pay me and I'll stop exposing your money for nothing scam. email me. I already know you will not pull the plug on this scam ... cool beanz ... pay me and I will go away.
@ 15:47 hours now, still no luck. My end is relatively easy now whenever I get a few spare minutes I go click away, and the minutes, hours, and days stack up.
I have complained out this since day 2 of release. Gimmie a break. We need our own server software so we can run on our own computers.
I to have the 'Global Game quota exceeded' message. It was also a problem on 2042 (with the AFK servers)
But I also have a 'Host Locally' button when trying to host a Portal server -- I just clicked on that and the game started a minute later.
Can you see that button on your PC ??
What's up with this QUOTA anyway, who sets it? What is it? Why where we not told at purchase that only so many people could use it at a time.
And that HOST LOCALLY is crossed out and not an option.

Unfortunately, the actual quota is likely only known to EA, and I doubt that they'd give that kind of information to us. Also, I believe that the local host option is only available for "Custom" games in Portal, so it might not be an option for "Verified Modes" if that is indeed the case.
While I agree entirely that it's frustrating not being able to play what we want (I've not been able to launch a Breakthrough or Conquest experience since the day after launch), it does seem that Rush experiences are working. At least it has been for me (experience code yqm1).
I had a same result with trying to host your Rush server too buddy.
EA must fix this, due one of their key feature is not working! And even not communicating it properly what to do nor providing any information too... :/
It's really very simple they can not support the software they are selling. They do not seem to have a Quota on the number of sales. All this Baloney about "XP" is total BS and as far as I can tell "XP Farming" is not a recognized legal terminology by any Courts. It is 100% a "Money For Nothing" scheme. And their use of the term is an attempt to belittle and besmirch People. They act as though it's some kind of stolen valor or a theft of some kind ... theft from who exactly. I am telling you it is a scheme and I will detail it's set up one more time.
Market and sell some software.
Set up two types of servers, one an actual server running the software, and another cheap old tech one to pump out some BS messaging 100,000 time a minute until it fries. The cheapies cost about 1/100th of the real deal. As time goes by and they sell more copies of the software they only add more and more cheap throw aways ... thus the scam is complete.
Sit back and watch the money roll in.
I did not see any mention of a Global Quota when they pitched the product.
I am not interested in being manipulated by a bunch of Dev's that create games they themselves would probably not be caught dead playing, and will never be forced into PvP gaming with a toxic community. I simply play video games to pass the time instead of watching TV.
The fatal flaw in their scheme is this, it's not just the THEFT of the purchase price, it the the theft of peoples time. Time is a commodity they can never replace, I dare them to put a price on such a thing. If I have my way I will put a Lap Top in front of a Judge and ask him to Click away at that HOST Button, and then ask them to define "XP Farming" for him.
It's basically scam at this point, selling a main game feature that does not even work!
Simple as that, I don't care about their excuse!
It's the same issue with 2042 portal, they know it, but either incompetent or not willing to fix it.
They should put 'Global Game Quota Exceeded’ Error on the market material. Hi everyone who bought the game can host a persistent server for free, but 95% of time you will get an error, lol.
Your last point is spot on. The time theft is absurd. I spent all this time setting up a custom experience, that I now can't use. Time that I put up and took down a server repeatedly the first day the game was out to get the settings right, when the feature actually worked for me. Time spent sifting through servers made by other users, clicking on a server to view its map rotation, seeing that it's only 1 map over and over again, backout out of that, only to have the game completely reset the filters I just set up. It's so frustrating and such a waste of time that I've gone to play other games for the most part.
And I'm not even setting up a 1v32 "bot farm" or giving players boosted health or anything. My server is default settings for the most part, with a custom rotation, a few gadgets disabled that I find annoying, and bot backfill so it's not empty when there aren't as many active players. My Rush server is up fine; I just can't host Breakthrough or Conquest, and Breakthrough is the mode I most wanted to play.
And finally, maybe people wouldn't feel the need to "XP Farm" if they hadn't made the weapon unlock system so nonsensical or the attachment unlocks such a grind. For weapons, why do you have to get to a certain level to even unlock the challenge to get the weapon? Make it one or the other, the weapon is either unlocked when reaching a certain level, or you have to do a challenge to get it. As for weapon attachments, someone on Reddit said you have to get 3000 kills to max a gun out. In BF4 you needed I think 300 kills to unlock everything for a weapon, but certainly no more than 500.
"XP Farming" is not a term recognized by any Court anywhere. It is not even a thing. It is a device used to intimidate.
