I would like to request adjustments to the M277.
As an example, I want to compare it with the TR-7 and B36, which have similar fire rate and damage drop-off models.
Compared to the TR-7, the M277 only has slightly better recoil and accuracy, yet it requires one more bullet to kill within 21 meters. When using semi-auto, both weapons perform about the same. To take advantage of the M277’s small strengths, you would need to land full-auto shots at ranges beyond 21 meters — despite having recoil and accuracy that are almost identical to the TR-7.
Compared to the B36, the M277 appears stronger beyond 21 meters because it needs fewer bullets to kill. However, as mentioned, its recoil and accuracy are only on the level of the TR-7. The B36, on the other hand, has extremely stable recoil and accuracy, allowing players to stay on full-auto not only where the M277 struggles, but even at ranges where others would normally switch to semi-auto.
These comparisons are with a 30-cost suppressor equipped only on the M277. In other words, even with a heavy 30-point attachment cost penalty, the M277 still performs on par with — or worse than — weapons without that cost.
M277 vs TR-7
Up to 21m: TR-7 is superior due to lower bullets to kill
Up to 75m: Since recoil and accuracy are very similar, TR-7 remains superior
M277 vs B36
Up to 21m: Same bullets to kill, but B36 is better due to recoil and accuracy
Up to 75m: B36’s recoil and accuracy are far better, allowing it to land full bursts while the M277 misses shots
At minimum, the M277’s recoil and accuracy should be adjusted to sit between the TR-7 and the B36.
Additionally, the 30-round magazine costing 40 points is another disadvantage.
B36 30-round magazine: 5 cost
TR-7 30-round magazine: 40 cost
Even though the M277 needs one more bullet than the TR-7 within 21m, and relies more on recoil/accuracy performance beyond that range — where the B36 excels — the M277’s magazine cost is still high.
At the very least, the M277 30-round magazine should cost 25 points. That would match the cost of the B36’s 40-round magazine.
Based on all of this, the minimum necessary changes are:
Adjust recoil and accuracy to be between the TR-7 and B36 (without the default suppressor penalty)
Reduce the 30-round magazine cost to 25
Thank you for reading this long post. I really love the Battlefield series and hope the overall balance continues to improve.
