There's a lot of issues in this game that contribute to the speed of it. I've been gaming since the Atari 2600, so I guess I'm an older gamer too. Other than the frustrating issues of bad hitboxes, getting randomly tossed in the air when walking over some odd asset like a garbage bag, or getting blocked or forced into a climb/traverse animation because of some tiny object next to you in the middle of a fight, the bad lag issues... ah, where was I going? Oh yeah, this game is almost hardcore with how fast you die. A big part of that is the absolutely, stupidly, absurd accuracy of SMG, carbine, and assault weapons. Getting full-auto headshot at ridiculous distances happens far, far too much. It's almost aimbot-like. Zero recoil or spread. TTK is maybe 1-1,5 seconds in many cases. And of course that means, in true BF style, that's all players use and you might as well throw the rest of the kits in the trash. DICE, like in the last several BF iterations has ignored kinetic energy bullet damage in favor of fire rate. Generally the faster your gun shoots, you win. Weapon balance seems to be something they just give up on, so it's nothing but bunny hop-slide SMG or carbines as far as they eye can see. Couple that with the amount of stuff everywhere means a crapload of campers that are super hard to see all with laserbeam SMGs or carbines. The game is absolutely beautiful in detail and loaded with HESCo barriers, wreckage, cars, planters, trash, all kinds of things. Amazing. But it's super hard to see opposing players. I haven't been spawnkilled or camped so badly by players just outside of spawn so many times so badly since SCUDs in BF:DC.
