They forgot to add some way to browse portal maps and experiences, so yea it feels dead. There are still quite a few people trying to work with it, and they keep updating the editor, so it's not abandoned. It's just poorly implemented.
It doesn't help they threw an absolute tantrum when players used portal maps to grind XP. XP which does nothing but give you access to all the weapons and attachments, and has nothing to do with real world money aside from keeping players in the game. So they broke that, HARD, and after that even the portal maps that somehow got some traction were still ignored by a majority of players since they weren't getting xp to play on a portal map.
They did put in their roadmap to add a server browser. They didn't put a timeframe on that though. With these kinds of things, you need to strike while the iron is hot. Sadly, the iron is already practically cold, and it would take an incredible amount of effort to bring it back to temp. That is to say, most players have already left this game, and likely will never come back. Even the ones that might come back are going to need a dang good reason, not just "Oh, we finally fixed armor guys!" but then people come back and the patch is riddled with glitches and bugs and they leave again.
The destruction... technically there is much more destruction in BF6 than in 3 or 4. The problem is that it isn't big and flashy and cinematic, and only makes a small change to the map. Personally, I think it's better for the map to have many small destruction events over the entire map, rather than just one large one. Though, it seems like redsuck gets both. So clearly the skill and tech is there, it was just wasted on the most useless game mode in existence.
