I have to agree that in their current state it is a major detriment to breakthrough. You have two groups of players using them now, those who have given up, and those who want to stat pad.
For those who have given up, instead of going sniper, the go mortar in their base. For those who want to stat pad, they do the same thing.
In both cases, they go towards the back of their base behind something, buildings, terrain, etc, where the other team doesn't have line of sight on them. They are essentially invulnerable as you can't attack them from neutral territory, are far enough back that you die to the out of bounds timer before reaching them, and similarly the recon drone can't reach them to destroy the mortar, although even that doesn't matter as they'll simply place another.
The only way to reach them would be with aircraft, but in breakthrough the defenders never have aircraft, and the attackers only have them in a couple maps.
The just yesterday I had a match where 5 out of 24 people on one side, and 4 out of 24 on the other was playing mortar in base. That's almost 20% of both teams combined on mortars, and that isn't really far from the norm in my experience. It is really killing the enjoyment of the mode.
