Mortars

Lately every game of Breakthrough is just non stop mortar spam. There are usually at least 3 defenders just spamming mortars. The only defense is to have your side counter them, as they are in spawn and the recon drone can't reach them. This takes away from the amount of attackers which is detrimental to the attack.

  • The bigger point here is mortars has changed the game type Breakthrough enough to suggest EA needs to address this in some way.

The whole point of the game type is objective attack and defend with real confines on where all the players can be, all stands to reason of course but someone(s) just sitting back dropping mortars on objective zones in attack or on defense changes things.

If EA does not care then so be it, but odds are people will play the game type differently over one change. Mortars, something is fundamentally wrong with that unless EA intended it. Frustration with mortar attacks or counter-attacks may not matter to EA. Then do what others suggest with your own counter mortar, fire and move frequently and see if the game rebalances.

I do exactly the same.  As such I frustrated some mortar noobs on Siege of Cairo Yesterday.

First one was a real noob he had set up shop in the out of bounds but he did not know that if you put it at the end of the road in plain sight shots fired through that same street are not stopped by the oob.  It costed him and an unfortunate squad mate who spawned on him their lives.

As soon as I hear mortar shells coming in first thing I’ll do is open up the minimap to see where they are, they usually stick out like a sore thumb in their oob on the map, next I determine my course of action. Can I get to them? Face humiliation. Are they well concealed I switch loadout for my own mortar and take them out. They are often too focused on spamming the objective to notice the counter mortar.

  • Letting drones travel into enemy base to destroy them would make a lot of sense AND work within the games intended counters.

Having to join in on a boring playstyle just to counter is super boring.  If it's still first stage and there are a lot of mortars, I'll just leave the match and find another without those players.

    One person

Just one person can shut down an entire team of enemy mortars with another mortar. They were  changed to be so fragile that one in in their general direction will vaporize them.

If mortars annoy me,  I will class swap and deploy my own, fire 3 shots
(you can fire 3 shells before any shell can travel at you), pick it up to relocate, repeat until they are all gone. Soon they get the message and change to something else.

If you absolutely refuse to adapt to what the enemy does and respond in kind, then this is a you problem

Sounds like a good idea. I despise mortars so much that I refuse to use them at all, but maybe I should :)
