I am trying to explain that you are biased based on the worst case scenarios instead of having the entire picture of the situation.
You remember the times that you were pounded by these aircraft and not all the times where they were a little more than noise in the background.
When I was doing the missions that involved taking out aircraft for the engineer class, I do not recall having much difficulty in either taking them down or repelling them with the AA tank or the stingers. Especially the helicopters, they are large slow point piñatas who have to pick between being locked on in higher altitudes or being hit by unguided weapons at low altitudes... unless they can hide behind a cover you cannot reach.
