EA permanently banned my Battlefield 6 account on 16 May 2026 for "Gameplay Enhancement". To find out why, I had to file a UK GDPR Subject Access Request and legally compel them to disclose the data they hold on me. The disclosure arrived. It proves nothing.
Start with the part that should worry anyone here: the anti-cheat data runs to 234 rows, and each row contains five fields and only five: session start, session end, date, IP address, title ID. No detection events. No flags. No anomaly scores. No marker against any single session. It is a record of when I logged in. The written narrative cites three grounds for the ban - unauthorised software, boosting, and excessive teamkilling - and refers me to "the sessions identified in the attached file". No sessions are identified in the attached file. Nothing in it supports any of the three grounds. One of them, teamkilling, requires game modes I do not play.
EA bundled nineteen of my own match reports into the same disclosure, apparently as proof of misconduct. They show kill counts from single figures into the low teens, and accuracy of roughly thirty hits per two hundred-plus shots fired. If that is the statistical signature of someone running unauthorised software, I would like to meet whoever set the threshold.
The route here was the usual one. Two appeals. The first denied within hours with nothing of substance. The second denied on 3 June after a holding message, again with no evidence and no sign a human had reviewed it. At no point did EA state what I did, when I did it, or in which match. Steam will not help either: I asked for a refund or an intervention, and they confirmed in writing that they do not act on publisher bans. So the position is £59.99 for a game I cannot launch, a permanent cheating sanction on my record, and a publisher that has now had two appeals and a statutory disclosure in which to produce evidence, and has produced none.
I am not asking anyone to take my word for it. The point is narrower and harder than that: EA were legally obliged to disclose the basis for the sanction, and what they disclosed contains no basis for it.
