Proximity Chat ASAP Please

For me personally, the game could use more HUD options, an offical Hardcore mode, and more gaget availablility across classes.

But most importantly the game needs a way to promote and facilitate cooperation. This could largely be fixed with same team proximity chat. Large scale battles where you can only really communicate with 3 other people who want to play completely different objectives often becomes an unfun lone-wolf enviroment; players quietly fume or rage in the chat at the forced disorganization.

Right now, the game is needlessly frustrating, there's a constant sense of resentment on every team because entire engaments are lost over the inability to contextually warn others, plan, or ask for help. A core appeal to the game is it's cooperative element, and currently that element feels fleeting, and rare.

  • Hi there,

I'm happy to let you know that the first iteration of Proximity Chat is coming with Season 4 Phase 3: Tidal Strike on September 15 through Battlefield Labs in Live.

It will initially be available in Battle Royale, creating new opportunities for coordination and unexpected interactions between nearby players and squads.

Launching the feature through Battlefield Labs in Live will help us evaluate audio range and clarity, player controls, moderation tools, and the feature’s broader effect on the flow of a round. Player feedback and live-game data will shape the adjustments we make before bringing Proximity Chat to Multiplayer at a later date.

In theory it would be great to be able to communicate over VOIP with the players close to you but in practice I think it would be a disaster. I usually wind up muting most of my squad because of a constant open mic with mouth breathing, someones TV coming through and yelling at wives and kids or kids crying in the background.  That would just be amplified with proximity chat.

If they did that, they would need a way to turn it on or off. Also, would you be able to hear the other team as well if they were talking close by.  Lots of things that would need to be addressed.

The HUD is too busy as it is. Adding to it is diametrically opposed to hardcore modes, which you listed as being needed.

I do agree with you about HC though.  I played a few rounds of Waithwalkers customs modes and it was the most fun Ive had playing BF6.  Unfortunately, it was impossible to get a game going outside of the one mode that was featured.  I wanted to play with FF on and couldn't get a game going.  The matchmaking system combined with everyone being able to host a server is just a bad idea. We need official rotations including HC modes.

Will players have a toddle to turn it off if they don't want it?

Right now I automatically mute console players because they have an open mic and do more talking outside the game then in the game.  Its annoying and I don't want that to bleed over into proximity chat.

At the moment, I don’t have any additional details to share.

Thanks for sharing your concern. I’ve noted your request for an option to turn proximity chat off and will make sure the team is aware of the feedback.
