Removing Gauntlet Will Not Automatically Grow Battle Royale
Please reconsider removing Gauntlet globally
I strongly believe the decision to remove Gauntlet because of player population should be reconsidered, particularly if the decision is being based on global player numbers rather than regional matchmaking conditions.
I regularly play Gauntlet on European servers, and even recently I have had almost no difficulty finding matches. The only time matchmaking can become noticeably harder is during extremely low-activity hours, such as around 4 AM.
From my own experience, Battle Royale takes longer to find a match than Gauntlet.
This raises an important question: if Gauntlet still has a healthy enough population in regions such as Europe, why should it be removed globally?
If certain regions have insufficient population to consistently support the mode, a better solution would be to manage availability regionally, rotate the mode in those areas, or implement broader matchmaking options.
Removing the mode for everyone because some regions may have lower player counts does not seem necessary.
There is also another factor that should be considered before interpreting any recent population decline: the Interdictor bug.
For more than three weeks, the Interdictor has been able to incorrectly one-shot players in Gauntlet despite players having 140 HP. This has had a major impact on balance and on the experience of regular Gauntlet players.
If player numbers have declined recently, this issue should be taken into account.
The sequence should not become:
A major gameplay issue is introduced → the issue remains unfixed for weeks → some players stop playing → lower population is interpreted as lack of interest → the mode is removed.
I also disagree with the assumption that Gauntlet players will simply migrate to Battle Royale.
Gauntlet and BR appeal to very different types of players.
Gauntlet offers fast pacing, objective-based gameplay, frequent engagements and a competitive round structure. Battle Royale focuses much more heavily on looting, survival, positioning across a large map and longer periods between engagements.
For many Gauntlet players, Battle Royale is not an alternative to Gauntlet.
Removing Gauntlet therefore does not necessarily strengthen BR. It may simply cause part of the Gauntlet community to play Battlefield less or stop playing altogether.
Battlefield should also be careful about replacing distinctive experiences with modes that increasingly resemble existing competitors such as Warzone.
Gauntlet gives Battlefield something different.
Please consider:
- Keeping Gauntlet permanently available in regions where matchmaking remains healthy.
- Using regional player-count and matchmaking data instead of removing the mode globally.
- Fixing the Interdictor issue before evaluating recent population trends.
- Giving the mode proper support before making a permanent decision.
If players can still find Gauntlet matches quickly, removing the mode because of “low population” is very difficult to understand.
