Re: Security Requirements on BF6 on PCs!

Battlefield 6 Won’t Launch Without Secure Boot – I’m Not Buying It, and Neither Should You

I was seriously considering buying Battlefield 6, but luckily I decided to test how the game launches first. And what do I get? The game refuses to launch because Secure Boot is disabled.

This is absolutely unacceptable.
I’m not going to dive into my BIOS every time I want to play a game. I’m not a hardcore fan willing to jump through hoops. I’m a collector of good games — and Battlefield 6 was supposed to be one of them. But not anymore.

A game should launch normally, without forcing players to tinker with low-level system settings. Call of Duty gets it right — why can’t EA and DICE?

I strongly advise everyone to avoid pre-ordering Battlefield 6 until the developers fix this nonsense.
Secure Boot isn't security — it’s a wall between the game and its players. And if the devs don’t understand that, they’re going to lose more of us.

Unless you have a specific reason why to keep the secure boot off, there is no need to turn it on and off all the time. Just turn it on and then forget about it. And yes, the secure boot was made for the security purpose in general (to prevent malicious software to load during the startup), it's a beneficial feature.

    Hey,

Secure Boot is usually enabled by default on most modern PCs.
You can check this yourself by pressing Win+R, typing "mcinfo32" and looking at the "BIOS Mode" (It should show UEFI)

UEFI supports hard drives larger than 2 terabytes, thanks to the GUID Partition Table (GPT) format.
UEFI also includes security features like Secure Boot, which ensures that only trusted software is loaded during startup.

I see no valid reason not ot enable it or to leave it disabled.

Let’s be honest. I don’t see any valid reason to enable Secure Boot. Some of you talk about it like it’s some kind of holy grail of security, but let’s not be naive — cheaters have always been around in online games, and they still are. If Secure Boot truly made a difference, why are games still full of cheaters?

In reality, Secure Boot causes real problems: games don’t launch from Steam, FPS drops occur, software conflicts arise. I’ve seen plenty of user reports where all of this started after enabling Secure Boot. And now I have to constantly wonder — “hmm, maybe the FPS drop is because of Secure Boot”? That’s absurd.

If this feature is so critical, then why isn’t it mandatory? Why give users the ability to turn it off? Maybe because enabling it violates some user rights? Or maybe Microsoft can collect confidential data without consent when it’s enabled? All of this just feels like another way to make gamers’ lives harder — and nothing more.

Secure Boot is an option that is effectively required in order to run Windows 11 as well, and with Windows 10 being EOL here in about 2 months, many folks are going to need to enable it (or upgrade to machines which support it), or will be running on an operating system that is no longer supported or receiving security updates.

It's not a holy grail, but it's another obstacle that somebody must bypass. If that will mean there will be less hackers in BF6, I am all for it. They started to require secure boot for Battlefield 2042 earlier and it looks like their metrics shown a positive effect of that step, otherwise they wouldn't require it for BF6 and make a life of some of their customers harder.

Another EA game I will not touch because they ruin everything they touch with stupid BIOS settings.
