Servers, ping, lag, regions
Hoping someone might be able to explain what exactly is going on with the above.
With 2042, portal was fine. You’d host a server, you’d get a server in your own region, your ping would be healthy and the matches played fine.
In 2042, I only used portal, but I assume the core matchmaking games operated in the same way and you’d get put into a server that was in your own region.
But in BF6, everything seems to have gone out of the window.
BF6 portal is pretty much dead. Hardly anyone uses it because they’re made it almost impossible to use - removing bots for the most part and also requiring 8+ people to start a match.
But I’ve noticed that if I host a server (and sit waiting endlessly for people to join), my ping will be say 30.
And if I host a server on a differ ment occasion, my ping might be 145.
So I can only assume that BF6 no longer prioritises a server in your own region.
Same thing happens if you use the matchmaking game modes. Your ping will vary WILDLY from match to match.
You join a game, the game ends and then you get thrown into a lottery where your next game is being run on a server literally anywhere in the world.
This is absolutely nuts. So it seems there is one big pool of servers and you get given whatever one happens to be free at the time.
And then there’s this scenario, which happened earlier..
I’m in a match with a friend. My ping is 33. I have the constant latency icon on screen, and sometimes packet loss. Seems the norm with this game.
Match ends and the next match starts. My ping is now 146. Major latency and packet loss. Red icons this time. I rubber band all over the place. I’m not even touching my controls and my soldier is sliding back and forth.
Then I get kicked. Lost connection to EA.
WTF.
I then rejoin my friend. Same match that I was in a couple of minutes ago. Now my ping is 16. Latency icon but not as bad.
How can my ping go from 146 to 16 in the same match?
So what is going on with the servers in this game?
We don’t seem to be able to select our region, server performance is awful, constant latency, packet loss, wild swings in ping, and all the associated netcode issues, bad hit reg, desync.
Are EA/ Dice just using really bad servers or are these issues caused by the server system they’ve decided to use in this game?
Because if this is how the servers are going to be for the life of this game, I can’t see people putting up with this.
