I agree with this idea, I could see either carbines or smgs as the signature weapon for spec ops. Also I have an axe to grind with them removing the ability to lase terrain with the laser designator. It would have fit with spec ops really well, a laser targeting device to call in air strikes on objectives (not just vehicles like it is now) and something like C4 for more personal sabotage.
