My beef is with its weird recoil.
Why does it pull downwards

I thought it was a cool detail. Recoil is a force that is applied to the barrel and goes backwards. When you hold a normal gun, you hold it underneath the barrel. This acts as a pivot that translates some of the recoil into rotational force that makes the muzzle rise. A minigun is the exact opposite, because you hold it above the barrel. This means that the way it rotates is reversed as well.
