Forum Discussion
A glorious copy and paste from ChatGPT excellent work prompting OP. Unfortunately your misunderstanding comes from assumptions you and a lot of gamers share.
This reversal, just days after launch, is a massive blow to the community and directly contradicts the promises made about the Portal feature.
I want to zoom in on the part where you say contradicts promises made about the Portal feature. You are referring to an unethical low-integrity company. EA is not an ethical company, so to base your argument off their "word" is a false assumption. The algorithm is designed to psychologically manipulate players while manufacturing outcomes to drive player engagement. Any ethical argument that ties to EA will immediately fall flat. So for this argument let's instead assume that nothing EA says can be taken seriously and work from there.
2. The Nerf Solved Nothing and Punishes Honest Players
Again here you are making assumptions about the intentions of an amoral corporation. You need to understand integrity, fairness, and honesty are not a part of the metrics that EA uses. Theses are fantasy ideas that players hold but have no weight in reality. Their metrics are time played, averge quit rate, k/d, etc. Honesty does not matter.
- Ineffective Measure: The XP farm servers are still over-capacity or have simply adapted to the new restrictions. Legitimate PVE players, however, are now left with a pointless grind.
You do not know that and can't prove the changes it did make internally. EA's telemetry can in reality be painting a much bigger picture than what we extrapolate on here. All of their decisions are data driven. You might not like the decisions but the reality is they are not there to serve you the player. You the player serve the retention graph and engagement metrics don't confuse it.
Ultimately, this broad nerf will do far more harm than good by killing the incentive to play the mode for the vast majority of users.
Now this is a stretch. Again they use data driven metrics. They understand very well that portal XP does not keep you engaged. The thousands of little engagement tricks do. Keep that dopamine flowing, keep that reward system churning. The ding sound on kills, ribbons on your screen, the entire game is designed to make you "feel" like you contributed even if the outcome was statistically determined by matchmaking.
The dedicated Solo/Co-op vs. AI mode should be restored to Full Progression.
Does this serve the retention and engagement metrics? Likely not if they got rid of it.
Serious Monitoring of Abusive Experiences
Once again the fantasy of a moderated fair experience. This is not real, it exists only in some players heads. You need to get over this illusion.
