What is wrong here?! I had to refund the EA version because nobody responded to my support request or bug report. Now I’m about to refund the Steam version. WTF is wrong here? My view is being forced...

Solved. The game detected a gamepad even though it was powered off. Turning it on in the game and then back off again fixed this.
