2nd mission of Mud & Blood: Endless load screen when continuing from checkpoint

What happens when the bug occurs? There's a black loading screen with the white mouse cursor and the spinning circle of white dots with music in the background. The mission never loads.

In the second mission of Mud and Blood, I cleared the final hill but the objective never completed, so the mission never progressed. Repeatedly. Having given up on the game last night, I restarted this morning only to find that trying to continue from the last checkpoint resulted in the game getting stuck on the loading screen. I actually let it do its thing for about ten minutes, and still nothing. Of course, I can't exit to the menu because it's stuck, so I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del out. 

This is the second game-breaking bug in single-player I've reported today, and the fourth I've experienced. It's pretty frustrating to drop $60 on a game from a major developer and see so many issues right out of the gate, especially when I'm running it on a machine that exceeds recommended specs and doesn't have any unusual characteristics.
