Aim Assist option has no affect

Disclaimer: I get it that there is a huge group out there who hate aim assist. I stipulate that you hate it. Please refrain from ranting on this thread.  

OK, I've been playing Battlefield 4 now for ~1/2 year and realized that despite the aim assist settings being on (by default) there is zero affect on aiming in online games. I've gone into the test range and confirmed that there is no change between aim assist and not. I've watched a youtube video where the player clearly had the aim assist option on and it was working. 

Being someone who doesn't like it when features don't work, I am compelled to get to the bottom of what is going on.  

I've spent about an hour searching for information online and have not come to any resolution. 

My details: 
Console: PS4 
Game version: Battlefield 4 Premium with all expansion packs 

So, the question is, IS AIM ASSIST DISABLED ON THE PS4 regardless of setting selections? I just want to know why it isn't working at all on my console.

    @PWDRSKR

    The Aim Assist option does work on PS4.  However, it is not that noticeable, and only gives you a little bit of assist, it is not aimbot like some hackers have on PC.  It will only give you a little bit of a "snap" onto players when they are close enough to you, and do not track the player.  It is very subtle.  I dont know if it works in Test Range since there are no active players on there, and it is just targets.

    Thanks for the reply (and not flaming me).

    The YouTube vid I saw demonstrated aim assist while on the test range.  It was very noticeable.  I can try to find it again.  In any event, there is zero assist on my console, regardless of test range or in game

    I never seem to hit anything even at close range but get killed instantly by the enemy.

    Sometimes the enemy is invisible then appear as shadows once they have killed me.

    I really suck at hitting anything. Am I really that bad?
