airplane - how to

Battlefield 1 is the best FPS ever ...

... but there are some annoyances, like the fact that airplanes (the small ones) seem to be overpowered like nothing else.

So, if using ANY of the standard classes, ANY weapon, which weapon is the best for these small attack planes ?

For example, for killing the blimp the best gun is that one almost in the bottom of the list - names escapes me - and then use the "fire bullets" option.

But, now for small planes, what is the best ?

I've never heard the word "blimp" before, but I learned something today, thx:

    Blimp
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blimp
A blimp, or non-rigid airship, is an airship (dirigible) without an internal structural framework or a keel. Unlike semi-rigid and rigid airships (e.g. Zeppelins), blimps rely on the pressure of the lifting gas (usually helium, rather than hydrogen) inside the envelope and the strength of the envelope itself to maintain their shape. The origin of the word "blimp" has been the subject of some confusion.

    Colonel Blimp
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonel_Blimp
Colonel Blimp is a British cartoon character by cartoonist David Low, first drawn for Lord Beaverbrook's London Evening Standard in April 1934. Blimp is pompous, irascible, jingoistic, and stereotypically British, identifiable by his walrus moustache and the interjection "Gad, Sir!"
Low claimed that he developed the character after overhearing two military men in a Turkish bath declare that cavalry officers should be entitled to wear their spurs inside tanks. The character was named after the barrage balloon, which was known as a blimp.

    Burton LMR
    https://battlefield.fandom.com/wiki/Burton_LMR
The Burton LMR is a weapon featured in Battlefield 1. The weapon makes mechanical use of its distinctive dual magazine setup by having the right magazine loaded with normal bullets and the left magazine equipped with incendiary ammunition. Using the fire selector allows the user to switch between magazines, and therefore ammo type.
It should be noted that the Incendiary Ammo does less damage to infantry that the standard ammo. However, its incendiary ammo does more damage to airplanes, and is one of the few infantry weapons that can damage Airships (both standard and Behemoth).

I don't know if "blimp" is typical for either American or British English but in my mind that's how it's usually described. Not that it's a daily occurance ... 🙂
In the game it's just called "airship", but that sounds weird to me.
I'm not an English native speaker.

    It always reminds me of:
"Even saw the lights of the Goodyear Blimp And it read: Ice Cube's a Pimp."

Anyway, Burton. Yes, select, switch to use fire bullets and aim for the steering things.

  • Not sure what the landmine thing is about, but my initial question was for these pesky small attack planes.

You can't hide from them because some of these dudes can fly these planes extremely low and that means they come out of nowhere, and they're gone without you realizing. And, of course leave all bombs close to you.

If you want to get these, you really need to focus, stop shooting at anything else, and hope they have some damage already. If lucky it seems you can get 4% damage.

I guess the AA gun is "the" weapon, but it's a stationary one ... these pilots know them and avoid them perfectly when you man them.

Also, at the AA guns you're often in an open space, vulnerable for anything. Maybe that's the trick - just guessing here - is to get that special armor (names escaped me), and then go to the AA gun, and then hope there's a plane flying by close to that gun ...
