Battlefield 1 is not launching, tried everything

Battlefield 1 not launching at all. I press play (doesn't matter if it's on steam or EA app), it says "preparing game", closes the EA app, then opens the EA app again while stopping the launch of BF1.

That all happened after I updated the EA app and downloaded the redist files for BF1 again. Before I did that this happens:

I open BF1 through either steam or EA app, it takes a long time so I always checked task manager. For 5 minutes, it stays as a background program, gradually using up to specifically 1.1-1.4 of memory and then suddenly dropping it back down to 400-700mb of memory, until the EA app opens and then forces Battlefield 1 to literally stop from even launching.

Everything I've tried:

Reinstalling Battlefield 1 (~10 times)

Reinstalling EA App (3 times)
Repairing EA App (5 times)

Clearing EA App Cache (8 times)

Verifying Game File Integrity on Steam (10 times)

Updating my graphics drivers (~20 times)

Changing compatibility modes of both Battlefield 1 and EA App (Windows 8 and Run as Admin in every combination)

Changing Battlefield 1 config file

Checked Windows Defender (Surprise, there's nothing there related to EA or Battlefield)

Changing EA App installation path

Possibly more because I've done this for the past 2 days and I can't be bothered to remember everything

Battlefield 4 and 2042 is just fine

This isn't an issue of my pc specs, it literally runs 2042 just fine which is not as optimised.

I already made an EA report thingy, id: 93f15890-1ccd-4155-a7d8-bd95136066a5

Video down below, starting up Battlefield 2042 at the end by comparison.

Battlefield 1 not launching demonstration

Help is appreciated and thanks in advance

  • I managed to fix the issue by doing these, it also sped up the launching time of BF1 and kept it at it's highest performance.

    This is what I did:

Uninstall BF1 from steam and then delete the Battlefield 1 folder in C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Battlefield 1

Delete the Battlefield 1 folder from the Documents folder

Update my graphics driver once again

Once Battlefield 1 downloads, restart my laptop

    Run BF1

Thank you to @HUN_gattaca_lg for replying to my initial post

@HUN_gattaca_lgThank you for replying to my post. I forgot to say that I'm on Windows 11 if that matters

Event viewer did not pick-up anything when I tried opening bf1 when the thing from the video I sent is happening.

However, I managed to recreate the problem I had at first (BF1 staying as a background program trying to launch until it crashed [something I forgot to mention in the first post was that I could actually open and play BF1 when this was happening but I had to restart my laptop and immediately open BF1 before any other program which I wasn't willing to do every time I felt like playing the game]) by running the game as administrator, disabling fullscreen optimizations, and setting the compatibility mode to windows 8.

This one actually had event viewer record something when I opened BF1.

Here are the 2 results I got on  event viewer when opening BF1:

  • I tried doing what I can such as running DISM restore health on the command prompt and turning on DX12 but to no avail, I encountered another problem on the game:

I launch the game and then check task manager for BF1

It stays as a background process in the task manager

It still does the memory going up and then dropping to 500-700 mb memory when it reaches 1.1k-1.4k mb memory thingy for a few minutes

The new thing now is that CPU usage of bf1 suddenly drops from about 8%-6% to 0% and then it freezes the memory usage in place

I had to end task BF1 to be able to try running it again, this is the crash dump when I terminated the app, it's a .dmp file

and also, I can't open BF1 at all now even if I restart my laptop.

  • @IL1K3FR1ENDSI understand how frustrating it can be when a game doesn’t launch, especially after trying so many troubleshooting steps. Based on the information you’ve provided and the common solutions for Battlefield 1 not launching, here are a few additional suggestions you might consider:

Run the Game as an Administrator: Right-click the Battlefield 1 shortcut and select Properties. In the Properties window, navigate to the Compatibility tab and tick the checkbox next to “Run this program as an administrator”. Then click OK to save the change.

Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest patches and updates from Microsoft. Dog Near Me

Disable Unnecessary Background Applications: Type ‘msconfig’ in the Windows search bar, go to the Boot tab, check the box to hide all Microsoft services, and click on ‘Disable all’. Apply the changes and restart your PC.

Delete Battlefield 1 Settings Folder: Go to Documents, find the Battlefield 1 folder, and delete the Settings folder inside it. This will reset the game’s settings to default.

Check for Software Conflicts: Sometimes, other software can interfere with game launches. Try performing a clean boot to see if any third-party applications are causing the issue.

Reinstall DirectX: Since you’ve already reinstalled the redist files for Battlefield 1, consider reinstalling DirectX from the official Microsoft website.

Contact EA Support: Since you’ve already submitted a report to EA, follow up with their customer support for further assistance, providing them with the report ID you mentioned.

Remember to back up any important files before making changes to your system or game files. If none of these steps work, EA’s technical support team should be able to provide more specific guidance based on the report you submitted. Good luck, and I hope you get back to playing Battlefield 1 soon!

  • i had the same issue with battlefield 1 not launching, after loads of trouble shooting and re-installing game/graphics i posted on the here aswel.

i finally managed to pint point the problem and that was Asus Gamefirst, removed that and the game runs again

  • Removing Asus Gamefirst was the only thing that fixed mine thank you so much for the suggestion!
