Battlefield 1 Lost Media and Forgotten Features

Figured for kicks I might as well should list some forgotten or rarely known aspects of BF1. Rating on rarity will range from A being well known to D being rarely known.

Rare melee weapons (Level A-B):

In BF1 there were multiple melee weapons that one could unlock via special purchases or during limited time events. One of these weapons were the barbed wire bat which could be unlocked via a logitech promotion. The second one is the Arditi Dagger which was unlocked during limited time challenges. And the last one is the ararebro, which is probably the most unique rare melee weapon. This was unlocked in challenges in the now shut down Incursions competitive mode. The ararebro did see a return to the exchange in 2021 but hasn't been seen since.

Incursions (Level B):
Incursions was DICE's attempt at created a competitive game mode in BF1. It saw an overhaul in the class system and was more geared towards a intense teamwork E-Sports setting. Unfortunately incursions was shut down on April 25th, 2019 and has not seen the light of day. It was a well received attempt at competitive BF1, but the devs decided to no longer work on the title.

Rare Easter Eggs (Level B):

There are multiple easter eggs in BF1 including the peacekeeper and mastermind program. But there are some easter eggs that some may not know about. These include the Pixar Up! easteregg on Verdun Heights, the Battlefield Heroes heal animation, various NEEBs voice line easter eggs, and the actual Easter Egg baskets on Soissons.

April Fools Update (Level C):

Updates for April Fools are quite common across all games, but some may not remember the April Fools Update in BF1. Introduced in 2017, The april fools update saw the horses in the game replaced with unicorns and a giant meteor on the Suez map.

Developer Only Weapons (Level B):

In BF1 and in other BF games, there are weapons exclusive for the developers. These include the c96 export and the howdah pistol sweeper. Each have slight changes in stats and can only be unlocked by being a dev of BF1.

The Camera Pigeon Gadget (Level C):

The Camera Pigeon is a cut gadget that was to be introduced in the Apocalypse expansion for the scout kit. Initially tested in the CTE, it allowed players to fly a carrier pigeon around the map and spot enemy players. Once spotted, enemy players would be highlighted similar to the trench periscope. The pigeon can be shot down by enemy players. Due to balancing issues with spotting players, it was ultimately cut from the expansion. INFO TAKEN FROM THE BATTLEFIELD WIKI.

Cut Voicelines leading to Possible Cut Content (Level D):

In BF1 there are various voice lines that were recorded, but never used. These include various self-voiclines, such as your character panicking when shot. There are also various voice lines leading to possible inclusion of cut features. These include voice lines of your soldier spotting U-Boats or submarines, specifically for the US faction. There were also voice lines recorded for a possible Commander mode like how there was in BF4 and BFH. There are also multiple cut voice lines of the female announcer helping you in the main menu and tutorials. Some are quite cute and funny imo lol.

Lost Guns and Vehicles (Level D):

The Automatico Optical variant is a missing variant of the automatic seen in the Battlefield 1 Gameplay trailer at the 41 second mark. It sports the typical optical gun variant sight seen on other guns in the game. From my research I also found an "automatico experimental" variant that had burst fire, similar to the MP18 experimental. It was scrapped possibly due to it being OP. People supposedly see carcanos in the segment where the Italian soldiers get cut down in the reveal trailer, but I doubt they are really carcanos. There is also a dog tag relating to the whippet tank, a British tank design in WW1. It is probable that at some point the tank was a concept in BF1, but was never used. Similarly the schneider, a french tank design, was mentioned in the Soissons cutscene when playing as the french. Its possible DICE planned on adding it but never did.

Concept Art Showing Scrapped Mechanics (Level D):

In the BF1 concept art, some interesting scrapped mechanics can be found. For an example, more female soldiers were supposed to be added for more factions. In the concept art's case, Germany. Armor plating was also seen on a motorcycle sidecar. And lastly soldiers were supposed to sit in the basket on observation balloons. Assuming we haven't seen any mention of these concepts outside the concept art itself, it is more than likely they were scrapped early in development.

Some of these y'all probably already knew but I felt like doing this anyway. Thanks for reading and share any more pieces of lost BF1 media below.

  • If this post gets enough attention I might make a timeline of WW1 as seen through the alternate outcomes of the operations...for kicks of course!...and also because I am bored and have way too much time on my hands.

  • @PSJackman4 I think if you add pictures, it will be easier to understand to what you are trying to say, but overall it's a nice post! 👍

  • Will do! Ill gather screenshots when I have the opportunity and Ill edit the post! Thanks for the feedback!
