Battlefield 1 now unplayable on Steam Deck?

Product: Origin
Platform:Mac
What game do you want to talk about? Battlefield 1
How accessible is the current experience? It's useless to me
Summarize what in the product is difficult to use. Firstly, the post did not allow me to correctly list ky product or platform, it gave me 1 option to choose from in both fields, lol. This report is for Battlefield 1 using a Steam Deck. The game launches via steam maybe once every 50 tries. Does not matter which version of proton is utilized for compatibility purposes. When it does run, it is impossible to play due to hard freezes that eventually result in me having to totally reboot my steam deck to do anything. This causes a cycle of repeated relaunch attempts and 0.3 seconds of matchmaking before another hard freeze. Note there are no visible error codes returned to me on my steam deck.
How is this making it more difficult? This is making the product completely and utterly useless. This seems to be related to anti-cheat rollout for battlefield 1. I've been having a flawless experience (no hardware/driver/software issues, no freezes...) before September 24th but now it is totally unplayable.
How can we reproduce this experience? Purchase a steam deck, download BF1 and the EA app and try playing it yourself. Proceed to bang your head into a wall as you realize all of your progress is now meaningless because it won't run on your device after an update and you just wasted money.

Hi, it seems that Battlefield 1 is now totally unplayable on my steam deck following rollout of a September update. This is very unfortunate as I don't have a PC so I guess I just lost the ability to continue playing my favorite FPS.

I'd like to see this fixed so I could play again like I have been. Otherwise I see no need to continue with EA products going forward out of fears that my purchase will randomly become unplayable due to some type of compatibility issue. What a shame.

  • Hi @Perfluorocarbon From my understanding it's because EA Anti-Cheat doesn't support Linux. Unless this is changed in the future, the game won't officially work on Steamdeck.
