After trying most of the fixes known I have seem to have found a way to fix this issue, it has been tested on 2 different setups each with positive results.
Step1: Locate the BF1942.exe in your origin games folder.
Step2: Right click on BF1942.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Set to Windows XP (Service Pack 2) -> Check Run this program as an Administrator
Step3: APPLY
Step4: Log out of Origin completely.
Step5: Run BF1942.exe. The same thing as always will happen, but after a few seconds the Origin login screen will appear.
Step6: Log in. Wait a few seconds. EA Games... Challenge Everything...

I had the same problem , and did just what you said to do and mine launched BUT the opening EA video ran super slow , and then my system Blue screened .
Erro code #116 , don't remember the exact file it referenced , but it was a nvl file of some type , so I know its NVidia related . I have a fresh install of Win 7 64 bit AMD FX 6100 Six Core CPU 3.30 GHz , 16 GB Ram , 2 nVidia 9500 GT's All drivers are current up to date
