BATTLEFIELD 2 - Server has refused the connection

Sorry to include this in the BF3 topics but I couldn't actually do it in the BF2 since there is no such product to select.

Anyway, this is an old error or at least I understood so from the forums and such. Though I didn't find a fix. Where it all started actually ? 
Well, I wanted to dive back into BF2 with the Project Reality mod and just to see if everything is fine, I wanted to play a round on the good ol' Wake Island 2007. But when I was prompted for my Username and password, which it had nicely saved since my last time playing like a year ago, trying to login became an issue. I was constantly rejected with a "Server has refused the connection" message and I can't create a new account either since I'm getting this message on it also. I have created an offline profile but I fear that this might ruin the connection in PR as well and I was hoping someone has a fix or some way of dealing with this. My ports are forwarded, firewall is not blocking the game since I remember I used to host LAN parties with friends over at my house and I have played this game years before. 

 I'd be happy if someone knows this issue or can actually link me to EA's livechat because I am either blind or it's really gone after you select a product and the type of issue you need help with. I will also post this on the Steam Community Hub in hopes of getting it resolved and I hope I hear from someone with knowledge of this soon.
