Hi stallion115536,
Can you tell me your OS (WindowsXP, Windows7, Windows8)?
If you use Windows7, Windows Vista or Winodws8 (8.1), please configure compatible setting.
1. Right-click on the icon of Battlefield2 on desktop or C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Battlefield 2
2. Click Property
3. Select Compatibility Tab
4. Check "Run this program in-" and select Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
5. Also check "Run this program as an administrator"
6. Press ok, Click ok again if UAC prompted.
7. Done! Run BF2 and enjoy!
I hope this will help.

Okay
Addition to Compatibility Setting, the following settings will solve the problem.
1. Check your resolution and refresh rate.
a. Open Display Settings by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Display Settings. You will see the resolution.
b. Click Advanced Settings.
c. Click the Monitor tab, you will see your fresh rate.
2. Open C:\Users\<Your Name>\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default\Video.con by notepad.
3. You will see this line
VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@60Hz
(the number will not the same)
4. Change the number like
VideoSettings.setResolution 1920x1080@144Hz
5. Done!
If it does not help, do the same to C:\Users\<Your Name>\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\ as well as 0002, 0003 and so on.
I hope this will help.

I am running win7 did ALL above and nothing.
Hello,
I just bought the game yesterday on steam and I tried what you wrote above and nothing works for me.
I already reinstalled Battlefield 2 three times.
I changed the resolution and the Hz to my screen settings. By the way I have currently connected two screens both running with 1920x1080@60Hz.
I deleted the whole Battlefield 2 folder in the Documents.
I changed to compatibility mode and I ran the game as administrator but after all this I am still not able to run the game that I just bought.
Please help me I want to play the game.
Also I tried to get this error message
