if yes , then I should be ok buying a used copy?
Yes you will be able to play online multiplayer as long as you donwload the free online pass from the PSN store. The BF3 Premium Edition comes with 2 codes, the online pass for the limited edition base game and a code to become a Premium member which allows you to download the expansion packs for free. Be advised that even though you are purchasing a "Premium Edition" the Premium code will most likely already be redeemed and if it has been you will not be premium since the DLC expansions are not contained on the BF3 Premium Edition discs and will not have access to the expansions until you buy them or buy the Premium membership.
how would I purchase the "premium " status ? also thru psn? How much is the Premium code?
so would I be better off buying just a regular BF3 new for the same price? I found a used BF3 Premium for $18 and a new BF3 regular edition would be about the same or maybe less.

Yes make all digital purchased for PS3 via PSN and not via Origin. On PSN Premium is $50.00 last I checked, so I would recommend going to a brick and mortar store and buying a new copy of the BF3 Premium edition which will give you the game and Premium for $39.99 instead of what you would pay for the used game and the premium seperately.

so basically either way if I got a BF3 or a BF3 Premium( without premium membership) I would have the same amount of access to the multiplayer. Not until I upgraded to premium membership would I get all the extra items.
so in best opinion, for the best new price which version would you choose?
used price?
