Battlefield 3 randomly freezing during multiplayer, needs hardreset ?!?!

I purchased BF3 Premium a couple weeks ago and finally got the chance to play it, but whenever I login to a server after 10-15 minutes the game randomly freezes and makes this famous BRRRRRR sound. I need to hard reset everytime.

Here is a bunch of things I've found online and tried but unfortunately none of them worked,

-Upgraded my video card from EVGA GTX 285 to EVGA GTX 670 FTW

-Upgraded the ram to 16gig gskill something

-Reinstalled the OS

-Reinstalled all the drivers obviously

-Redownloaded all the BF3 expansions and everything

-Reinstalled punkbuster

-Installed EVGA Precision X and monitored everything there is no overheating or anything, there is no overheating on CPU as well

-Underclocked/Overclocked the videocard

-Increased the voltage of the videocard

-There is no problem with any hardware, I've intensely tested my hardware with a bunch of other games, not a single issue

-I've flashed the BIOS to the newest

-Installed and re-installed Realtek onboard audio drivers

-Disabled anything NVIDIA sound related

-Lowered my sound settings to CD Quality ( When I had my old rig this solved my issue before any of the expansions, after the expansions my oldrig started failing and none of the above helped with both old and new hardware setup)

-I've set CPU minimum power to %100

-Disabled uPnp or whatever that thing is

-I've made sure I have enough harddrive space

-Even at the ultra settings not a single flicker or fps drop until its freezing but still I've tried a bunch of different graphic quality settings, medium, low etc...

-I've made sure that all the hardware is tightly sitting in their sockets, slots etc..

-I have a 650W PSU so it is not a power related issue, again there is no issue with any other software, game etc..

-There is no electric or internet related issue

-Tried using different browsers Firefox, Chrome etc..

-Disabled Origin in-game thing

-Tried running as an admin with different compatibility modes

-I assigned all the Physx related things to CPU and set my GPU settings to performance instead of quality

-Got rid of any sort of firewall and virus cleaning software

-And a lot of other things I can't even remember,

I know I am not the only one having this issue and since I paid for the whole thing and I like the game a lot, I really want to find a solution to this very annoying problem. I have been reading all the related stuff for weeks and nothing helped. I would be glad if someone tell me what to do, is there a patch on the way? Is there anything that I missed in the list above that would solve the problem?

    hi,

    according to my experience, even in ps3 they do freeze during the multiplayer game. this is partly due to other players who's far beyond another country joining the server your in, it crashes the ping between you too... ie, you can be playing in a european server, and suddenly someone from australia or malaysia join in, then the posibilities of having a freeze or lagging can occur.

    I am constantly getting freezing followed by a BSOD saying the secondary processor did not send an interrupt or a message of that sort on top of the blue screen. I do not believe this is caused by pings or latencies. I am in USA i try to play only in USA servers for less ping and stuff.

    There is a few things in event viewer:

    Kernel-Power

    Level:Critical

    The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

    WHEA-Logger

    Level:Error

    A fatal hardware error has occurred.

    Reported by component: Processor Core
    Error Source: Machine Check Exception
    Error Type: Internal Timer Error
    Processor ID: 6

    Processor ID: 2

    Processor ID: 0

    And a bunch of other unexpected shutdown logs on different levels. I suspect all of these events are logged not during the freeze but when I reset and log back on to windows. I could not find anything happened and logged in the event viewer at that particular moment

    Nothing? Really?

    At this stage I am quite convinced that there is something wrong with the game itself, anyone from EA?

    Is BF3 the only game you have this problem with? 

    Try using MSCONFIG, go to the Boot tab then Advanced Options.  Put a check in the box for Number of processors and choose 1 from the pull down.  After a reboot try BF3 again.

    So you are saying i should set my pc to use 1 core instead of all?

    Yes, just temporarily to see if it resolves the problem. If you crash again then obviously it didn't help and you can enable all cores again.

    I'll give it a shot but what I was trying to say is what is the point of playing with 1 CPU when you have quadcore, or what is the point of disabling the sound card and play the game without sounds.

    I mean it is ridiculous in my opinion, I have been reading a lot of threads and stuff, I have not seen or heard a "legit" fix for this from EA side. There is no patch, there is no suggestions, nothing. This is a high profile game with a ton of users, and I am a premium user, how come there is noone assisting people including me on this issue, I do not understand

    Well, as far as I know this is not a general issue. Thus it's a specific issue with your combination of software, hardware and settings somehow. Now Battlefield 3 has had quite a lot of different obscure specific issue, more than most titles, probably due to the game using a new graphics engine and backend and the fact that it was rushed a bit.

    Now, lets see if we can fix your problem, have been in a somewhat similar situation myself. Here's my suggestions for you:

    • Yes you should disable you soundcard in the bios and try without sound - Realtek soundcards often cause problems in general.
    • Have you downloaded the latest drivers to your Realtek soundcard from Realtek's homepage instead of your motherboard manufacture's site? In any case, try switching between then.
    • Make sure your network adapter driver is updated - same deal as the soundcard, try both the motherboard+chipset manufactures' newest drivers
    • Now I know you say it's not a heat problem, how little heat is that? Anyways, sensors are only usefull to a certain degree - try removing your gfx and remove dust and insert it again.
    • Try running a CPU stresstest, sometimes the thermal paste between CPU cooler and and CPU is lacking in a certain area of the chip and you will need to remove the CPU and remove the old thermal paste and apply some new.
    • Run a RAM test like Ramtest86+ for some hours to see if you crash due to a memory error.
    • Try to clean your computer using a program like ccleaner
