Hi theslayer,
I have the same issue with my Battlefield 3 on my Xbox Series S. Interestingly, the same game on my Xbox Series X works without any issues when I pick "Multiplayer" and "Co-op" options. On my Xbox Series S, those same "Multiplayer" and "Co-op" options fails with the message "Failed to Connect to EA Online... Try again" something like that.
I believe that the bug is the blue-ray drive. Xbox Series S doesn't have one and X has a physical drive. Since Battlefield 3 was installed via a disk, I think that Battlefield 3 looks/checks for the blue-ray drive and becuase Xbox Series S doesn't have one, it hangs when "Multiplayer" or "Co-op" option is picked.
I hope that you could also experiment this theory with people who have Xbox Series X.
Please EA look into this issue. Thank you
Take care.

Counter:
On the Xbox 360, if you access the Game Details (Press X when on Dashboard), you can install the game's files that are on the disc to the hard disk drive (HDD) or any USB 2.0 external drive of the 360. This means that the game.exe, the updates and Premium content are all stored on the HDD (total is around 21.2GB) but requires you to have the game disc in the tray to load up the game (remember, there's no digital license).
Result: You can play the game 'digitally' at no cost other than having the game disc being readable.
For the Xbox 360 and OG Xbox software emulation (used by the One and its variants, and the Series S/X), the 360 game must still be installed on the HDD to work. Most Blu-ray disc drives have a separate laser for CDs and BDs (like the PlayStation 3).
On your Series S, you might need to port-forward some ports (they're on this forum somewhere, on r/Battlefield3 and on r/Battlefield) on your router to connect to EA Online.

I was wrong when I said the issue was with the lack of a blue-ray drive on Xbox Series S.
My issue has been resolved with linking my xbox gamertag to EA. Contact the EA's help to assist you on this.

I can confirm that since removing the Blue-Ray player I can now play BF3 online again, thanks for showing me this, not been able to play for like 8 months 🙌
