Battlefield 4 - PC - always crashes

Hi. Whenever I try to play BF4 it always crashes after a couple of seconds. I have VS2012 installed on my computer because I program in C++, so this give me a little insight into dubugging. Now, the reason it is crashing is because of an exception error - handle your exceptions much...

A little background information:

 - Whenever I try to play ANY server on multiplayer the first thing I encounter is missing icons for all the guns, i've tried to take screenshots but I haven't been able to take them.

 - Whenver I crash like I said i'm able to debug why, this is the error message that comes up in the debug screen for VS2012:

Unhandled exception at 0x000007FEF652FA5D (atidxx64.dll) in bf4.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x0000000000000018. The program '[4352] bf4.exe' has exited with code 0 (0x0).

As soon as I saw this I was like "Aha, finally i've found the culprit - atidxx64.dll. So, from there I uninstalled all my video card drivers and reinstalled them, still, no anvil. I haven't been able to play since about March now... Please, help me. I've been playing the BattleField franchise since 1942...

Here is a DXDIAG report of my system

C'mon EA support, lets get to the bottom of this issue!!!

  • I got this as well, it's been already 2 months...always the same thing, but it's based on "fortune"...sometimes I can play full matches one after another, sometimes I join a server, play for about 5 minutes, then get CTD with Windows error popup. Now, reading the details of the problem, what I see that is important is "APPCRASH ---> bf4.exe ---> nvwgf2umx.dll". Now, it's obvious that the OS is trying to tell that the problem is generated by the video driver (in fact, on my DXDIAG, I can see that one of the many "main" video drivers is the nvwgf2umx.dll), but then again I got no errors on the DXDIAG, and in fact all other games are working fine. Any EA advisor will always tell u the same useless things: "repair the game, disable Origin overlay, disable anti-virus, disable firewall"...no really, are u serious? Look at these forums, plenty of people with this problem, people that aren't stupid and that already tried to format, update/change drivers and so on, and still the puslisher (EA) can't comunicate to the developer (DICE) to try to replicate this mess on their own PCs and MAYBE find/work on a solution? Isn't this what all your job is about?

But anyways, here are my specs:

    CPU Intel Core i5-2500k @ 4,0GHz (overclocked)

    GPU Asus GTX 670 (stock)

    RAM 8GB DDR3 @ 1866MHz (stock)

    OS Windows 8.1 x64

I have the game since december 2013, and never had this problem until maybe the "famous" first "netcode" patch (which upgraded the servers tickrate from 10 to 30 hz). I tried both Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8.1 x64, nothing changed. Tried different versions of GeForce drivers, nothing changed. Last note to EA: I paid real money for "Battlefield 4 Premium Edition", can I expect a "premium" support from you?

  • I haven' been able to play in months. Last game I had was 5 months (or so) ago. The game just crashes after map loading. Cannot join any of the servers. I've tried the tips and tricks mentioned here and in the BF4 forums without success. Also tried repair for BF4, no luck. Still the same problem.

And I have to mention that for starters the game worked just fine. Occasional crashes but nothing serieous. Something changed during summer and now it has been broken for the last months. Any ideas how to resolve the issue?

    Reporting back.

After doing some checking with my graphics options and some long, long testing I think I have found a way around this sort of crashing.

    Antialiasing was causing the crash.

It was set to 2x MSAA, after disabling it I was able to play in the test range for a good 15 minutes. Going to load up a multiplayer server now and I will report back!

You know one thing that really pisses me off, how bad a multi billion dollar support system can be. Absolutely shocking. I've been playing BattleField games since 2002, 12 years later you still treat us like something you would find under your foot. EA does not care about us at all, shame they're missing one thing - we give them their wages, their player base. Perhaps they should remeber that.

You think I'm buying BF HardLine? Think again.

    -- Update --

Able to play for 43 minutes, still no crash. Looking good. Doing a map swap now, shall keep updated.

    -- Update --

Able to play three maps, no issues. Good FPS, game still looks very pretty. Hope this can help other people out there!

Oh yes! Setting the antialising to OFF fixed my issues as well. Was able to play after a long long time! Thanks again! You're a lifesaver!

  • I also played 3-4 games without problems, but I did more than changing the AA:

    AA: OFF

    AA POST: OFF

    SSAO/HBAO: OFF

RESOLUTION: 1080p BORDERLESS (not FULL SCREEN)

GENERAL QUALITY: MEDIUM (I was on HIGH before)

I will keep testing and report if anything changes (again).
